3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Drink4Satan (666) - Washington, Washington DC, USA - NOV 6, 2011Bottle ordered at CKDC. Date on bottle is March of ’08 and sampled today. Deep mahogany colour with a late-forming 1-finger beige head. The nose is similar to what you might expect from an English barleywine. British noble hops, vinous malts, brown sugar, juniper (duh), dried dark pitted fruits, and mild cocoa impressions. A bit more of the cocoa and brown sugary sweetness are apparent upon the first sip. Grassy and herbal hop notes, tobacco, juniper and figs/dates/dried dark fruit. The palate could be a little fuller, IMO, though the duration is long. I’m glad to have sampled this tasty brew. Kudos to Huvila and CKDC!

Darl brown beer with a small dark beige head. Sweet bread and caramel on the nose. Quite a soft and (medium to) full mouth feel - very interesting. Caramel and pine needle hops. This is quite a unique one. Probably not my first choice for this particular moment but the beer is unique and tastes original. Definitely worth a try!

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 16/20 wchesser (706) - Denver, Colorado, USA - MAY 22, 2013
Deep mahogany color. Belgian yeast nose with a lot of caramel. Taste follows. Finishes sweet. Very much like a Belgian dubel all around. Kind of dubel meets winter warmer. Good with enchiladas with chimayo red chili. Expensive but that’s Finland for you.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 douglas88 (4598) - Salt Lake City, Utah, USA - MAY 21, 2013
500 ml bottle from HWC. Pours a mostly clear mahogany color with a medium light beige head. A mostly sweet nose of toffee, candies, berries. An interesting flavor bordering in on a barley wine at times with big caramel and sweet malts, some distinct juniper. light bitter flavors, soapy at times, really interesting.
3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 MikeJslc (508) - USA - MAY 21, 2013
Light brown, slightly hazy, beige head. Aroma of nutty, toasty, bready malt with a woody, earth, juniper note. Flavor is malt balanced--bready, a little toffee, slightly nutty, followed by a woody, dusty/earthy note with a moderate juniper character. They apparently did not use the traditional farmhouse Sahti yeast with this (no clove-like phenols, etc.), instead, its a pretty clean yeast. Overall an interesting, malty and rustic beer.
