(Bottle 25 cl) Courtesy of Bierkönig. Vintage 2005. Clear, dark, amber golden with no head whatsoever - looks like a vintage cognac. Fat aroma of caramel, overripe fruit and alcohol. Very full-bodied with hardly any carbonation. Plenty of sweet caramel, overripe fruit and vanilla accents. Almost no bitterness, but a warming alcohol in the finish. A decent British style Barley wine. 120108

Bottled (as Pikkulintu Barley Wine 2005), Pikkulintu, Helsinki. 2 bottles, as the first one had some kind of infectionlike notes. Brownish amber colour, not much head. Aroma is earth, caramel, alcohol with some Madeiralike notes. Flavour is caramel, some alcohol, raisins and mild berryish notes. After rating IIended up blending the "strange one" and the "normal one" which also quite surprisingly resulted in a quite nice thing.

250ml bottle (Pikkulintu, Helsinki, Christmas Beers 2007) as "Pikkulintu Barley Wine 2005" Rich red, almost no head. Sweet honey and apple aroma. Full sweet malty body, with honey too. Good bitter bite on the back of the tongue. Zingy - mixed peel. Powerful yet delicate.

(Bottled, 0.25%, labeled "Pikkulintu Barley Wine 2005", and I was told this is brewed exclusively for them) Clear, deep red-amber with a small head. Grainy-malty aroma with dried fruit, fermented strawberries and hints of alcohol. Sweet and very grainy-malty, dried-fruity flavor with well-hidden alcohol. Medium to full-bodied, not very thick palate with flat carbonation. Sticky mouthfeel. A decent and quite drinkable barley wine, but somewhat one-dimensional with a very emphasized graininess. Nice to see a Finnish barley wine, though, after Plevna retired its 11% version.
