4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 brunnsbe (63) - Helsinki, FINLAND - FEB 14, 2008
(Draught@St.Urho) Finally an excellent beer from Huvila. A really smooth well balanced Imperial Stout that doesn’t try to be something remarkable by having a great amount of hops or too much roastiness. I heard that yeast used by the brewery couldn’t go higher than 9%, although it was supposed to be even stronger.

3rd June 2010 - Brasserie 4:20. Bottle - thanks to Alex! Black stout, creamy brown head. Light soft frothy palate. Very sweet (it does say Dessert!). A little chocolatey but with a fair amount of forest fruits as well. Creamy tones and a little coca cola in there as well. A Dessert Stout. Does what it says on the tin - loved it!

Originally rated on 20.3.2009. 330ml bottle from Alko Arkadia. Sweet and slightly boozy, but otherwise quite well balanced and tasty imperial stout. 8-4-8-3-15 = 3.8 Re-rated on 11.6.2010. Taste is much more balanced after some aging. Great beer.
4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 TET (790) - FINLAND - JUN 18, 2009
Black beer with weak beige head. Aroma is great, lot of liquirice, nice roastiness, some alcohol, sweetness and maybe some chocolate. Roasted malts dominates the flavour and keeps the flavour quite simple, but still it is not covers all flavours. Also coffee, liquirice, some syrup sweetness and alcohol is disappered from the flavour. Low carbonated palate is full bodied, slippery and sticky in the end. Huvila Dessert Stout is great finnish beer that I can proudly recommend.

2009-08-30, courtesy of Per, 7-4-8-4-17=40 Black color; creamy head. The aroma, with some roasted malt chocolate and hop, is quite perfumy. It has a good caramel and chocolate flavor, quite sweet but not thick or syrupy; balanced and pleasant.

Bottle 50 cl. Courtesy of oh6gdx. Dark brown with an orange hue and a small, rough off-white head. Intense aroma of overripe fruit and hard roasted malt. Quite full-bodied, a little low in carbonation, hard roasted malts and some sweet vanilla. Sweetish yet burned malty finish with distinct alcohol. 240709

Almost black with a tiny head. Sweet and fruity aroma - dark berries and over-ripe bananas. Smooth sweet mouthfeel. Huge, but also soft sweet taste, with a big chocolate-cake punch. As it warms, the alcohol lifts winey aromas to your nose with every sip - very pleasant. Lots of malty body and more over-ripe bananas as well as the chocolate. Absolute corker from possibly Finland’s finest brewer.
Rerate: 330ml bottle (Alko Arkadia, Finland) BB2010, drunk 2012-05 (7:4:8:4:15=3.8)
7 beautiful aged aroma, lots of dark fruits, vineous, slightly oxidized.
4 basalt. TIght dark tan head dissapears very quickly.
8 Utterly delicious. Super rich burnt roast, but no harshness. Sweetness well under control.
4 quite a crisp palate at the front of the tongue from the carbonation, but very full when in the mouth. Smoothish, but not too sticky. I remember younger bottles being quite sticky (why did I not review one?). Finish slightly coffee-cake like, and a touch bitter, perhaps like a chocolate truffle dusted with cocoa. Fairly burnt too, but not astringent. Initially I did get some marmite too, but don’t get that later.
15 I wish I had a younger one to compare to. Better in several ways, but just beginning to show its age too. Then again it’s way way past its BB.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Rastacouere (5923) - Montréal, Quebec, CANADA - JAN 8, 2010
This black ale wears a beige sheet that never departs while launching strong cakey aromas. Pretty much epitomizes a chocolatey stout, this is rich with chocolate cake fudgeyness and fortunately well focused so its relative simplicity is no hindrance. I can’t perceive any trace of fruitiness, nor much hop character at all. If anything, it’s its... consolidated alcohol which has a considerable presence besides the chocolate. Its 9% is certainly felt despite the global smoothness, though it never becomes exagerated. Very sweet in mouth, reminiscent of honeyed covered bread, chewy at that. Somehow, its velvety mouthfeel cushions the mouth gently as its carbonation mostly resumes to a smooth foaminess and the effect of this dance is a sense of balance. A fortunate turn of events as I’m not that big a sucker for sweetness in my beers. No edges in this soft finish, tame roast bitterness never even challenges the desserty sweetness. Chocolate Indulgence... heard that somewhere?
