4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Robust aroma is oily and smoky with firm tones of roast malt and licorice as well as hints of coffee, caramel and burnt hops. Pours a rich coffee brown with a very thick tan head that hangs around for a while. Scrumptious flavor fills the mouth with smoky, nutty, coffee and licorice notes and more than a hint of caramel. Firm, lively flavor has plenty of tingle and viscosity. How ’bout them Finns - they know how to brew some ass-kickin’ beer!

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Appearance: almost jet black, with a thick, frothy two-finger light tan head. Aroma: chocolate, coffee, licorice, roast malts. Taste: chocolate, roast coffee beans, black licorice, star anise, earthy hops. Finish: lingering lactic tang over black licorice flavors. Notes: Just ok for me. The black licorice/anise flavors were a little too prevalent. My bottle claimed a 7% abv.

500ml bottle pours black in color with a finger of off-white head that settles to some spotted lacing. Aroma is roasted malts with chocolate and coffee. Taste is roasted malt bitterness with some sweetness from the chocolate with hints of coffee and a noticeable but mild hop presence. Medium body with some soft carbonation. A quite enjoyable brew.
