The Huvila X-Porter has a deep black appearance with a brown head. Creamy, slightly nutty, smooth chocolate malt nose. The taste is similar to its nose but also allows the taste of toffee to come through. The after taste then turns more chocolate with toffee. This is a rarity as not many top-fermented Baltic Porters are made any more. Our “hero” at the San Diego Int’l Beer Festival 2010! It is available on tap and in bottles in bars and restaurants across Finland. Since 2011, Huvila X-Porter is also available in shops in Estonia through Drink Baar. Last, but not least, Huvila X-Porter is also imported into the US through Shelton Brothers.

(50 cl bottle from Bunker Beer; BBD: August 2nd 2014) Pours black with huge, chocolate milk-coloured head. The head collapses after a while leaving something floating in the centre. The lace is nice. As I’ve recently found with many beers it’s possible to reinvigorate the head by circulating the beverage in the glass. Aroma is subdued roasted malt with a nutty impression and a hint of smoke. Mouthfeel is somewhere between oily and creamy, soft carbonation, medium body with a roasted finish. Taste is quite approachable yet also somewhat bland - neither particularly sweet nor bitter, roasted or ascorbic.

Hienostunut ja tasapainoinen, ehkä hieman liian kitkerä jälkimaku, mutta hyvin hyvin nautittava.

400ml on-tap at Taphouse, Copenhagen (40 Danish Krone):
Quite a thick & creamy beer that was loaded with roasted malts & a nice earthy flavours that featured a pleasant chocolate taste; this added some sweetness to proceedings & opened things up nicely for the vanilla & caramel sweetness that followed. The beer, on the whole, was a very nice one & a good introduction as my first Finnish beer with a good balance & plenty going on to keep you interested.

Tried on Warsaw beer festival (4th edition). Roasty aroma. Very good, classical appearance. Nice taste with roasty and chocolate notes. Fine aftertaste. Such a good, normal baltic porter.

Draught at Tap 10, Cph. Pitch black with a fluffy, tanned head. Sweet, roasted aroma with dark malts, chocolate, coffee, caramel, fruity notes and herbal grassy hops. Taste is lightly sweet and roasted. Medium to full body with a creamy texture and a soft carbonation. Lasting sweet and roasted finish with a lingering fruity note. Lovely Porter.

Bottle, few days after bbd. Comes with middle-sized beige head, growing after pouring. Full-bodied, intense chocolate, sweet but not ’sticky’. Great porter.

Dark brown color, almost black with really nice, creamy light brown head. Aroma has toasted malt, dark bread and a bit of brown sugar. Tasty starts on the sweet side with grains, a bit of brown sugar and a hint of dried fruits. Finishes bitter and roasty with a nice coffee flavor. Body and carbonation are medium. Overall it’s a well made beer, really balanced between the sweet and bitter flavors. The start is quite sweet but the bitter finish and aftertaste makes it really easy to drink.
