FROTHINGSLOSH (4035) - GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA - SEP 1, 2011
My favorite beer from this brewer to date. Sampled from an 11.2 oz brown bottle this beer poured a dark brown color with a large foamy beige head that lingered and left a bit of lacing. The aroma was tart and sour raisin, fig, cherry, molasses, anise and bread. The flavor was sour caramel, nut, bread, light tart cherries, fig, port wine and vanilla cream. The finish was long with caramel, fig and molasses lingering. Moderately full bodied and creamy. Excellent.

Poured brown with reddish highlights when held to the light. Big off-white head with nice retention and lace. Caramel, yeast and alcohol on the nose. Slightly sweet with yeast on the taste buds.

(Bottle, Monk’s Café Wallingatan, Stockholm, 11 July 2011) Dark reddish brown colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, fruity nose with notes of caramel, dried fruit, raisins and brown sugar. Malty taste with caramel, dried fruit, prunes, dark bread and a spicy finish. More than medium body, fairly sweet. Quite nice.

Very much like the dark brown color of this beer, but the smell is pretty average and so is the taste. Body and carbo not great either.

marcot (771) - Campomorone, ITALY - JUN 30, 2011
Bevuta in piazzetta a Toirano come Belgica Double Brune, è sostanzialmente una dubbel, un po’ dozzinale, con un fruttato esagerato ai limiti dello stucchevole.

larsga (5364) - Oslo, NORWAY - JUN 8, 2011
Big brown head. Deep dark red brown body. Papery licorice aroma with chocolatey notes. Dry-sweet papery licorice taste with syrupy herbal notes. Mild, soft mouthfeel. Mid-bodied. Sweetish earthy musty chocolatey aftertaste with herbal notes. Nice, mild, drinkable. Faintly peppery. (0.33l bottle at Delirium Cafe, Brussels.)

330ml bottle (S. Brevinga Alus Salons, Riga) - Rating #5000
6 Full sweet fruity aroma, dark and sticky.
4 Dark reddy brown, huge beige light head.
6+ Sweet and fruity. The fruitiness tends towards slightly soured dark fruits, maybe figs, but we can’t 100% place it. Purple grapes too. Very sweet.
3 Sticky sweet palate, pleasant carbonation. Finish is sweet and a touch sickly.
13 Huyghe doing what they do very consistently - solid strong sweet belgian ales. Maybe not the best beer in the world nor the worst beer in the world for my #5000, but the experience of being in the new Brevinga bar and shop made this special - thanks, Mr bar-owner, for the Artevelde glass as a congratulatory gift on reaching this milestone! Cheers!
