slapknot (8) - Safety Harbor, USA - JAN 2, 2007 does not count
2003 Vintage from Sam the Beer Man. Bottled opened with little carbonation, poured out into glass with inch cream colored foam that slowly dissipated, leaving only a thin ring around the glass. Appearance is dark mahogany, murky; the color of water from a rusty pipe. The aroma is red sauce (canned tomato paste) and candi sugar, although both are not intense, perhaps because of it’s age. When taken the beverage is warm in the mouth, tasting sweetness from candi, a bit of coriander spice and toasted caramel malt. Aftertaste is dark fruit—cherries noted from the top, and definitely the pit of plum as it washes down. Both alcohol and musty yeast are present in the taste, however for it’s strength that alcohol taste is surprising; the blood-like “must” seems to be common to the Family Huyghe Brouwerij (Delirium Noel). Enjoyed in Goblet. On a side note, watch out for Boise State Broncos in ’07!

Gerbeer (150) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - MAY 25, 2012
330 ml bottle via Belgianshop. Pours a dark murky brown with lots of carbonation and medium head. Aromas of dark fruit and roasted malts. Malty flavor, spicy, metallic almost tea like finish with hints of raisins and bread dough.

Deeply roasted malt flavor. Not overly complex as a result as this swallows much of the rest of the beer’s characteristics. Green tint to head. Dark reddish brown appearance. Tried at the Bruges bierfest in 2012 with Jess and Dave.

Snowy dark brown, beige head. Aroma is some funk, raisins. Taste has overripe fruits, dried figs, some sourness, overripe banana, bread. But all a bit too moderate. More taste and fuller body would have been nicer. still an ok drink though.

Artevelde Grand Cru is a pretty average Belgian strong ale. I especially like the palate which has a high carbonation and not even a trace of alcohol. A solid beer.

Deep, dark caramel color. Big, giant, foamy off-white head. Plenty of lacing. Sour malty aroma. Sour, funky, sweet, slightly malty taste. Roasty and bitter. Weird beer. Not exactly close to style.

Defreni (1935) - Husum, DENMARK - NOV 10, 2011
