3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 tombyars (1205) - Saltcoats, SCOTLAND - APR 24, 2012
Tasted this in the Salt Cot, Saltcoats (JDW) in April 2012. Cask, handpump dispense. Clear dark mahogany in colour with a thin off white head. Warm yeasty dough in the short aroma. Thin and watery mouthfeel and good lacing. Mixed malts give a moist maltloaf flavour with figs and molasses just about in there but fades fast. Dry dusty note from the hop resins add a short bite to the brief aftertaste. Finish is malty with woody notes but alas soon starts to run out of legs though. An ok session mild but not up there with the best of them.

14th March 2012 Liberty Bell Spoons. Clear dark amber beer, good pale tan head. Light dry palate with fine carbonation. Tangy apple! Dry finish. Appears to be to young and thus a bit rubbish!

Cask conditioned at a Wetherspoons. Dark chestnut with tan head. Fruity nose leading to a wet cardboard, grainy flavour, touch tartish, metallic with an underlying sweetness. Average.

Cask at JDW. Very dark ruby beer. Initial thoughts are good, as the berry fruit character shines through. But there’s a disappointingly sour, soapy taste, and the body is watery. There are far better milds out there.

Isacc Wilson, JDW, Middlesbrough. I like a mild, but they’re not often seen in my neck of the woods, so I snapped this up when I saw it on a spoons real ale festival. Lovely and dark , head thick and lasts well. Delicious malty notes on the palate and lingering on the finish, a satisfying pint!
