The Barley Wine Style Ale is our most potent ale and is characterized by a rich, malty flavor and is balanced with a heavy hop bitterness. This beer is sweet with a hint of caramel flavor and the high hop bitterness is barely preceivable over the intense malt and alcohol. Barleywines are typically aged for one year before release and will continue to improve for several years. Barley Wine Style Ale is available in bottles.

12oz bottle-pours a light tan head that laces and copper/red color. Aroma is medium malt-caramel/peat/some smoky, slight fruit. Taste is medium malt-caramel/peat/some smoky, secondary dark fruit, earthy hops bite. An off character when chilled that disappears at cellar temperature. So notes are at cellar temperature.

My notes say "aweful", which would seem to imply that this beer if full of awe, or somehow worthy of awe. Sadly, this is not the case, and was simply a misspelling, alas.

Thanks Justin! Tame yellow/amber, creamy slowly rising head. Strong alcohol aroma over milky caramel. Seems young with the warming heat, lighter in body and softer than most in the style. Initially intense leafy hop character sharply softens as the beer warms and catches up and as my palate adjusts. Probably won’t age as long with a screwcap but I’d like 5 to hold on to. Finishes grassy and fairly light. Love to drink this at the peak.

Bottle, courtesy fishingnet. Hazy amber copper pour, thin lacing and smallish head. Some caramel and sharp dry grain, some vanilla, and slight heat. Flavor is very smooth, with caramel, cocoa, some vanilla, and slight port-like qualities. Very yummy. Balanced and medium-bodied.

Bottle courtesy of fishingnet. Pours a hazy golden color with clearly visible floaters and a thin white head. Aroma is sweet and floral with notes of caramel, honey, vanilla, boozy, some hints of ripe dark fruit. Thanks fishingnet for the share. Pours hazy orange amber with a white head. Nose is malt, caramel, sugar, honey, floral hops, booze, and I swear I get some vanilla. Flavor is caramel, honey, malt, floral hops, pine hops, and some nice sweetness. Enjoyable medium to full-bodied beer with lingering sweetness. Very good.
