COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Barley Wine Style Ale is our most potent ale and is characterized by a rich, malty flavor and is balanced with a heavy hop bitterness. This beer is sweet with a hint of caramel flavor and the high hop bitterness is barely preceivable over the intense malt and alcohol. Barleywines are typically aged for one year before release and will continue to improve for several years. Barley Wine Style Ale is available in bottles.

Bottle brewed on 3/15/2012, 10.1% ABV. Pours a light brownish amber color with sudsy beige foam. Mostly caramelized sugars, dark fruits and malt in the aroma with a bit of honey in the background. The taste starts with caramel, raisin and toasted malt flavors that lead to notes of orange citrus, resiny hops and vanilla. Mild creaminess in the body along with low carbonation and a dry, malty finish. Straightforward American style Barley Wine with pretty good balance overall.

Bottle. Well over a year old (sticker says it was brewed 03/12/12). Pours a dark cloudy brown with minimal tan head. Low carbonation. Very complex aroma with brandy, figs, licorice, and brown sugar. You can really taste the alcohol, this is a strong one. Flavor is pretty malty, with dark fruits and a bit of sourness. Very heavy. This is not my normal style, but it’s good stuff.

Murky red brown color with a small, off white head. Aroma of dark fruits, caramel, light oxidation, pine, vanilla, and some alcohol. Taste of nice dried fruits, raisins, caramel, light vanilla, tobacco and oxidation / lt alcohol finish.

2011 bottle at Stumbling Monk: obviously old, a little cardboard and heavy fruit. Dry-ish, some sugar and residual heat in the throat. I’d drain pour it if someone hadn’t paid $8 for it.

Over a year old, this batch had some time to age. Appearance is orange-amber with a creamy beige cover. Rich fruity aroma that splinters into apricot, tangerine, dark candied fruits, and zesty fruit punch. The body is of juicy fruitiness and chocolate. Apricot, tangerine, and fruity punchy notes all emerge. Medium-bodied, even a bit thin over the palate. No off-flavors and quite quaffable.

Bottle. Appearance: Pours dark reddish copper color with a nice off-white head. Aroma: Dark fruits, caramel, and burnt sugar come to the nose. Taste: Sweet sugary plum comes through. A little more on the sweet side with not much hop bitterness coming in on the palate.

Bottle, split with mcberko. Pours an orange / red with fine white lacing. Aroma of candied sugar, red fruits, syrup, caramel, molasses, honey, and some marzipan. Flavour of marzipan, booze, caramel, candied sugar, dark fruits, molasses, some roasted coffee and lightly burnt wood. Light carbonation, lightly bitter, sweet, but not cloying. Flavour is not as well rounded as hoped.

12 oz. bottle, split with Matts_Property, pours a somewhat hazy mahogany with a small ring of beige head. Aroma of toffee, candied dark fruits (plum, raisin), caramel - not really hinting at much hop character. Flavour of maple syrup, toffee, candied fruits and just enough hop character to balance out the sweetness and prevent it from becoming cloying. Thick, viscous, syrupy palate, with only a slight alcohol burn. A little too syrupy and after a while, a bit cloying. Solid barley wine.

Clear dark amber color/ ivory head. Honeydew melon, pit fruit, marshmallow aromas. Smooth medium body. Nicely sweet n’ sharp caramel, marshmallow, pit fruit flavors with some spicy alcohol twang to finish--good
