3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a deep brown color, with a moderate beige head and fair lace. Nose is malt with slight hints of caramel, the middle is medium, the finish some what semi-sweet, dry, and a nice hop presence. Average as BWís go, not great, but drinkable.

2.3 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
This sucks dawg................A murky orange color with a white head. All is well looking at it, its when you smell and taste it that the problems arise. The aroma is musty like an old stanky blanket found in an attic that the dog used to sleep on. Also some oranges and sweet potatoes. The flavor is very sour with tons of synthetic lemon juice. It didnít seem old to me, just poorly crafted. Quite possibly the worst barley wine Iíve ever had.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Thanks Justin! Tame yellow/amber, creamy slowly rising head. Strong alcohol aroma over milky caramel. Seems young with the warming heat, lighter in body and softer than most in the style. Initially intense leafy hop character sharply softens as the beer warms and catches up and as my palate adjusts. Probably wonít age as long with a screwcap but Iíd like 5 to hold on to. Finishes grassy and fairly light. Love to drink this at the peak.

1.2 AROMA 1/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 1/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 4/20
I have now had to bottles of this and they both failed tremendously. First bottle was flat. Second bottle, had lots of life as it poured but turned out to be sour as hell and terribly disappointing. What a shame.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle courtesy of fishingnet. Pours a hazy golden color with clearly visible floaters and a thin white head. Aroma is sweet and floral with notes of caramel, honey, vanilla, boozy, some hints of ripe dark fruit. Flavor is sweet and malty with notes of honey, caramel, ripe dark fruit, some floral hops in the background. Generally medium body with a pleasing malty and slightly hoppy finish.

2.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
2011 bottle at Stumbling Monk: obviously old, a little cardboard and heavy fruit. Dry-ish, some sugar and residual heat in the throat. Iíd drain pour it if someone hadnít paid $8 for it.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle, thanks to Rachel, who brought this back from Washington for me. This is my fifth of the Sampler Six she bought for me, and Iíve been very impressed so far. This barleywine is probably the best of the lot, too. Pours clear medium "old gold" to copper, medium off-white head, which is again quite persistent and laces beautifully. Whatever else Ice Harbor might do as a brewery, they make bloody marvelous looking beers. Nose is right up there with some really top-flight younger barleywines Iíve had, complex, spicy, citrus hops, fudgy cocoa notes, caramel, red fruits, pipe tobacco, licorice, both red and black, some earthiness, cedar, some notes I can only describe as "of the Orient" here too. Flavours arenít quite a match for the nose, but few things are. Flavours are "darker" than the nose, more molasses and raisins, brandy, marmalade, slight red candy note, but more tubas notes here that trumpet... A very classic American-style barleywine, I really must source some of this to age. Had this after the well-made though unimpressive Kolsch, and it was very much a horse of a different colour. Startlingly good, especially considering the very pedestrian packaging.
