3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
A sweet, pleasing Flanders Red. This beer pours a brownish red color with a better than expected off-white head. The aroma is sweet and sour cherries with a touch of malt. The flavor is similar with a medium-light vinegar kick. My score is dropping as I go through my glass, which is never a good sign. Thereís a somewhat cloying syrupy character to the beer. Iím not good enough at beer tasting to tell if itís back-sweetened, but it tastes that way to me. If this beer was bone dry and a lot oakier, Iíd like it a whole lot more. As is, the sweet cherry flavor is growing acrid on my palate. Itís not a bad beer, but I prefer a bit less sweet in my sours.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Served with very little head and no lace. Color is a dark, cloudy brown with some reddish highlights. Maybe a little light struck: some burnt rubber/skunk. Flavorís not quite as skunky as aroma and I get some of the nice tart malt with fruit in the background. Had another bottle of this here recently and it was much better - no skunk. Good mouth and carbonation. Skunkís gone at the end. Good finish. No sense of the alcohol at all. Iíd try another.

2.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Bottle into snifter. Really dark read pour that proves clear if held to light. Very light khaki head that fades to a ring pretty fast. Nice roma, but not to style. This is no flemish red. No sourness. Vanilla, oaky, sweat malt (almost as if some brown belgian candi sugar is in there). Flavor is not good. Soyish, watery, sweet, off or old belgian candi sugar. Medium bodied with medium to light carbonation. Overall: overpriced and deceptive given its proclaimed style.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Pours a barely clear dark ruby brown with a medium to large dense lightly tanned beige head. Wine cork, light fruit, grapes, a bit of funk and must. Medium bodied, sweet and tasting a bit like a fruit sodaÖnothing like what the aromas had me anticipating. Almost no acidity, or funky bite. Little bit of almost a chocolate flavor, mostly towards the end of the finish. A bit chalky and dry.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours a deep crimson with an airy beige head. The nose does not suggest any sourness, only sweet red fruits and light malts. The flavour is initially sweet pear, plum and other red fruits (possibly candied), fading into some corn syrupy malts, and very mild tartness. The finish is short-lived and artificially fruity and toffee-like, maybe caramel. The carbonation is a bit on the soft side, but the texture is silken and rather nice, despite the watery finish.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
750 ml bottle. It poured a very dark liquid with reddish tones and a very small foam. The aroma was sour and fruity with red berries. The flavor was sour, sweet, with red berries and a hint of red wine. It also had some sweetness. Very nice, I like this kind of beer.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: DEC 30, 2015 Initial rating, 5-19-09: 11.2 oz. bottle. Appetizing, sour aroma features apple, salt, rhubarb, and crabapple scents. Pours a hazy, almost opaque maroon to dull medium brown. Small amount of beige head. Sour, clean taste. Finish is slightly metallic and features a grapefruit or blood orange tang. Bubblegum and lemon juice flavors. Some light, dry bitterness. Easy to drink. Light to medium body. Lively in the palate. Ichtegemís Grand Cru is not remarkable, but it certainly is drinkable. 7/4/7/3/13=>3.4. Re-rate, 12-30-15: 11.2 oz. bottle, consumed on 12-30-15. I didnít realize I had rated this previously, albeit more than six and a half years ago. Labeled ď18JUNI2019,Ē presumably a best by date, and presumably 5 years out from bottling date. Pours a reddish, medium brown with a small to moderate amount of beige head. Almost maroon in color. Produces good lacing. Nice color to the liquid. I believe the liquid is hazy, but itís dark enough in shade that itís hard to tell. Tart, caramel aroma. Scents of raspberry, red apple, toffee, and bubblegum. Pleasant, appetizing, light smell. Malty flavor shows barely a hint of tartness let alone sourness. Chocolate, prune, and strawberry flavors. Overripe red grape. Pleasant if underwhelming Belgian bruin taste, but I really wish there were a lot more in the way of sourness. Medium body. Reasonably lively. Easy to drink. Not a bad beer, but the aroma and flavor ought to be more extreme and powerful. I was about to call this an introductory sour, but it is so unsour that I wouldnít even go that far. 7/4/6/3/12=>3.2. Combined rating: 7/4/6/3/13=>3.3.
