3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Clear red-brown beer with a thin head.
Nose: Tart, cherry, oak, red apple, vinegar and pear.
Taste: Cerry, tart, oak, sourness, sweet apple, grape, blackberries and bread.
Body: Medium body with a crisp carbonation. Pretty sweet but the sourness balance the beer.
Very good Grand Cru from Ichtegems with complex, balanced taste. A little to sweet for me. I think I put my remaining bottle on hold for a few years and let it mature :)

Bottle shared at a tasting at Max’. Murky brown, white ring. A little vinous, grapes, some cherry aroma, sweetish sherry taste. No carbonation, full body, long, sherry finish. Really nice, delicate and inoffensive.

Taste at Bohemian Bull. Interesting and complex. Pours a murky brown with a decent head. Definite wine/ oak/ cherry notes happening and sourness comes through at the end. Malty upfront. Somewhat strange on the end- apple? Overall well balanced and only slightly odd.

2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
11.2 oz bottle to snifter (shared with the Mrs.). Best by 18JUN2019. Pours a murky dark amberish brown with very light caramel head that steadily dissipates into lacing. Smells solid; tart with a prominent cherry presence, but one that’s only slightly medicinal. Some light oak as well. Tastes like it smells, but significantly blander an unbalanced. Mouthfeel is medium-bodied and lingers on the tongue. Meh.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
33cl bottle, brewed for the American market. A Grand Cru of the Ichtegems Oud Bruin for Strubbe’s 175th anniversary. The aroma has some fruity, cherry, sweet flavours. A very appealing scent. Poured in a pint glass, the glass colours beautiful dark red - even a wine colour. The foam is rocky and of a lightbrown superb look. The taste again is fruity, light sour: One of my favorite old Belgian browns. The perfect combination of bitterness, sourness and sweetness. The body is light/medium and of course a perfect drink on a summer’s day.

3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
11.2 oz. bottle from Wilbur’s. Appearance: finger white head, does not last, ruddy color, clear, light lacing. Aroma: cherry, balsamic vinegar, Palate: medium body, average carbonation, dry finish, slightly chalky texuture. Taste: sweet cherry and light caramel with slight tartness, into a more caramel sweetness and cough syrupy cherry finish. Overall, too sweet, not very tart, and the palate is not amazing. Not my favorite for the style.
