Serving: from bottle--purchased at Total Wine & More. Aroma: light apple aroma. Appearance: huge, fizzy, light-brown, initial head with fair lacing and mostly lasting longevity. Dark red/brown body. Taste: moderately sour apple initial flavor and moderately sour, leathery finish with average duration. Palate: light bodied with dry texture, fizzy carbonation and metallic finish feel. Overall: excellent. Complex flavor. Thirst-quenching. I’d happily drink this again.

11.2oz bottle pours out a reddish copper topped with a sand head. Nose is lots of wood cherries and a little funk. Taste is as the nose with lots of the wood showing some sweetness and a nice little cherry tartness.

It has a nice semi hazy dark red color with white head and a nice aroma of almonds and red wine. Medium sour taste and a very light fruity sweetness. Sours are not my favorite beer style but still this one is not without some charm.

The more ’authentic’, i.e. wood-aged version of Ichtegem’s Oud Bruin, sweetish with tart accents of sour cream, sour cherries and red berries, vinous, deep red brown colour, light lactic acidity in the finish with woody notes. Not as complex as e.g. Rodenbach Grand Cru or Duchesse de Bourgogne, but an honest, well-made, artisanal oud bruin and therefore important per definition.

Normaal ben ik geen fan van dit soort bier, maar dit was een absolute meevaller.

Transfer from BA review on 8-8-12- Served on tap in a 10 oz chalice glass Appearance – Served a dark brown color some tints of red and almost no head. Upon swirling there was very little lacing.. Smell – Sour notes of cherry and some notes of other dark fruit aromas of red grape and fig. Mixed with these aromas were some lighter notes of a light oaky note. Taste – The taste starts out sour and gets even more sour as the taste advances. It begins with cherry and some other sweeter fruit flavors of prune and apple. These flavors bitter and sour more as the taste advances with a more vinegary flavor that enters the profile. In the end some oak flavor meets the bitter and sour flavors to leave a somewhat unpleasant burn on the tongue. Mouthfeel- The body of the beer is on the light to medium side with the carbonation level rather average. Overall – While it has some nice aromas and fruit flavors upfront, the very vinegary flavors sort of turn me off (this is not really my style of beer; so if you like sours it has some nice characteristics, but if you don’t like sours then….)

I only rate this low because Flemish Red Ales are truly truly not my thing. While I thought this beer was sour, yeasty, bitter, tart, and gross, I’m sure it was supposed to be this way.

Bottle from Brugge. Dark red colouring with quite a substantial white head. Sour cherry nose. First taste is very cherry! Lovely wheaty after taste, a definite sipper. Not as sour as expected and a little tart at the end.

Bottle at Six Degrees North, Aberdeen, 21/06/14. Dark chestnut brown/amber with reddish hues. Nose is tarte fruit, dark cherry skins, musty fruit cake mix, dates, sour mash, dank straw, light smoke and spice. Taste comprises stoned fruit pangs, caramel, light toffee, bitter cherry, almond, light acidic notes. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, sour rinse in the close. Decent enough Flemish red.

Pours an almost impenetrable brown/red with a finger thick white head from bottle into a tulip glass. The aroma is pungent and fruity. Very thin bouncy mouth feel that is not too intense. Taste is sour, slightly cherry like but not artificially. Great beer
