COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Old sour beer is blended with sweet young beer before bottling to create a beer with a sour nose, sweet taste, and a slight sour aftertaste. Ichtegem’s goes great with shrimp or can also be used to marinate various kinds of meat in.

Intens brown beer with reddish shine and yellow-beige head. Woody and youghurty smell with hints of wine and cider. Also hints of German shwarz-brôt and sweet fruits (Candy like). Hints of wood, wine, and lactic sourness well couttred with some sweet fruity accents. A little out of balance and a bit to sweet for the style.

sour tart candy flavors. Ilike this style but its not rodenbach. acidic and lemon sourness with liqourice and burnt bread notes.

Clear dark brown coloured, brown head. Malty and sweet. More like a Dutch than a Flemish sour ale, and that’s disappointing. Not impressive. Bottle indicated 5.5%.

Light pleasant grainy nose, dark amber-brown color, foamy head with some lacing. Sweetish grain with a hint of chocolate. Not really sour, and certainly not bitter. Thinish overall. Good but not so interesting.

UPDATED: OCT 23, 2005 Dark brown, red color, spare head leaving laces. Light raspberry-vinegar, malt sour nose. Kind of sweet malt and honey taste - a bit stale and actually a bit weak..

This beer has a red/brown body - hue apperance and a fine light white scum collar. I have drunk the beer from the bottle and it had a low carbonic acid. The initial flavor taste is acid.

rauchbier (3596) - Isle Of Beer, Lincolnshire, ENGLAND - FEB 25, 2004
Bottled. Ruby red brown, thin white head and low condition. First aroma was sour apple, soon taken over by stilton and caramel. In the mouth it was like sucking artificial sweetner tablets with a slight woody tartness struggling to make its presence felt. Unflattering dry saccharine notes in the aftertaste.

Sour aroma. Nice light brown/toffee color. Sweet malty caramel in start, some bitterness in the finish. Fresh and fruity. A bit sweet in the palate.

A red beer with a fine beige head though fast disappering. The aroma is sweet with caramel notes. The flavor is sweet and slightly sour combined with notes of raisins and red currants.
