on draft at brewery, this stout was actually pretty good. Nice and roasty, ashy and sweet, dry hoppy roasty finish,

750 ml bottle poured ink black with a thick, very active tan head. Earthy, dirty aroma with much yeast present. Some roast and coffee in the background. Instant tingle on the tongue, really more carbonation fizz than I would have expected. First taste screams Belgian yeast. Flavor resembles the nose: eartyness, hay, bitter dark chocolate and coffee grounds & some campfire. Nice local artesian brew. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle from Downtown Wine and Spirits. Pours a solid black with a small but long lasting foamy tan head. Smells of chocolate, caramel, and spice with hints of roast, clove and pepper. The flavor comes through with chocolate caramel and light pitted fruits. Lots of bread and yeasty phenols as well as a hint of ethanol. Medium body with a spirited level of carbonation and a bubbly slick mouthfeel. True to style and more carbonation than I enjoy this beer is pretty good but I would have liked a bit more caramelized sugars and dark fruit flavors.

From the bottle it pours a jet black with a slight tan lacing; the nose is super strong homebrew (ie. overwhelmingly presence of yeast and esters imparted from the secondary) and doesn’t stay constant; strong roasted English malts with a distinguishable barley and slight hop usage on the body; easy on the tongue but drops off quickly.

Pours black into a shaker. Mocha head with good retention recedes leaving spider lacing. Earthy roasted chocolate aromas. Thin with sour chocolate and nuts upfront turning bitter in the dry lasting roasted coffee finish.

750 ml bottle shared by Carl- thanks, Carl! Pours a deep brown color with a medium-sized beige head that dissipates quickly. The aroma is roasty, with chocolate, mild smoke, nuts, fig, and a lot of roasted malts. The flavor has deep, rich roast, dark chocolate, earth, cake, and mild smoke. Light-medium bodied, with medium carbonation and a dry, roasty mouthfeel. Intense. Not huge Belgian character.

Pouring at Belgian Beer Fest. Pours a deep black with a thin tan head. Big coffee and roast, cocoa, chocolate. Bitter coffee and cocoa, roast and char. Cocoa, chocolate, long bitterness. Chocolate, cocoa, roast and tannins on the finish.
