Pours a deep, opaque burgundy with a thick toffee cap that settles to a ring. Huge malty nose involving plenty of caramel, raisins and dark fruit, toasted notes, some cherries, some molasses, some underlying hop notes. Taste is very sweet but also pretty bitter, but not enough to tame the malt. Heavier bodied, thicker, somewhat buttery, with just enough of a warming alcohol sensation. Must allow time to warm up properly to really enjoy: a tad medicinal cold. A nice stab at a big beer style. Went really well with the sticky toffee pudding.
