Ilguciema Kvass - a healthy, foamy non-alcoholic beverage, brewed from natural ingredients as a result of unfinished alcohol fermentation. It has a pronounced aroma and the taste of a genuine rye bread. Kvass is brewed from barley and rye malt grain. Kvass only acquires the characteristic taste and flavour of fresh rye bread during the fermentation process while preserving all the biologically active substances contained in the malt, necessary for the human body. Ilguciema kvass does not contain food colourings, artificial flavourings and sweeteners! It quenches thirst and is perfect to serve with different dinner dishes.

1,5L bottle (as Tanheiser Kvass Originaal). Pours copper-brown with small light brown head. The head stays for a moment. Aroma is sweet, malt extract, some fruity notes, burnt sugar. Flavor is sweet, malt extract, some sour notes, fruity notes, honey. Finish is sour-malty-sweet. Carbonation is rather high. Overall: too sweet and sticky, but I would take this over some crappy alcohol free beer any day.

1,5 l bottle at the legendary Anker Hostel kvass rating session 2014. Slightly unclear dark brown body with a thin film of off-white foam. Aroma is mainly rye bread and malt. Flavor is sweet malt, rye bread with a hint of lemon and no really bitterness. Medium body and way too sweet aftertaste. Interesting to taste but more than a few sips becomes too sweet for me. Suspect there got to be more interesting versions off Kvass out there somewhere.

From a 500ml plastic bottle, kindly shared by djoeye. Dark red-orange coloured body. No head, poor lacing. Sweet bread on the nose, hints of dried fruits. Jam-like taste of dried fruit, honey, and sweet bread. Sweet ending, and overall way too sweet (Tromsø 07.05.2014).

0,5L brown pet "Veselibas"; orange toned red body. Aroma as a bakery with some new fruity bread. Taste; bread, caramel sweetness, raisin, marmalade, vanilla. Good on palate. Sweet finish. (b@supermarket Bauskas Latvija t@Rating@Rune)

Bottle 1500ml @ Hostel room - Anker Hostel, Oslo
Pours clear brown with a short lived small off-white head. Aroma has notes of malt, rye bread, wort, grain, hay, brown sugar and syrup. Taste is medium sweet and light sour with a rye bread and citrus sour finish. Body is light, texture is thin, carbonation is soft.

Bottle, 1.5ltr, at the Anker Hostel kvass rating session 2014. It pours a reddish brown body and a minimal sized off-white head. Lots of dark rye bread in the aroma, dark sugars as well. Some prunes and dried figs. It’s pretty sweet on the palate, quite thin and with a low carbonation level. Some lemon in the flavor, but only enough to deal with the sweetness. Dark rye bread and some dried fruits too. Lasting sweet and bready finish. A quite pleasant one, but in small quantities only. 140503

Small brown head. Very slightly hazy brown body. Earthy sugary rye bread aroma with spicy notes. Dry-sweetish, and faintly acidic, raisins and honey taste with grainy earthy notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, flat mouthfeel. Dryish, slightly watery, earthy rye bread aftertaste with spicy notes. Decent, but a bit thin and boring. (0.5l PET bottle, from Stockmann, Riga.)
