Using a recipe from 1884 found in the archives of the original brewery in Ilkley, this distinctive Victorian Pale Ale was designed as the perfect accompaniment to food, being light and crisp. We have added our modern slant using Australian and American hops and the result is a beer for any occasion. Available in cask and bottle Hops: Calypso (USA), Stella (AUS) & Nelson Sauvin (NZ) Food Match: Yorkshire Lamb Burger, Teacakes

0.5l bottle. This is a really crystal clear golden one, some few unfiltered particles in the glass and it only has a tiny bubbly white top. On the nose it’s not all that interesting to be honest. Mild yeast fruity with melon and a good amount of honey. Other than that it’s quite generic and a little dull imo. It has a nice round bitterness all the way in the taste. Feels soft oily in the mouth while the carbonation level is just about average. Grass bitter, quite typical for the genre really. Enjoyed accompanied to a roast beef sandwich. Did the job just fine! 21.12.2013

Klar gulbrun i fargen med et tynt lag med hvitt skum. Malt, blomster og sitronlukt. God bitter humle og sitrus i smaken. Tynn munnfølrlse, kort lett bitter ettersmak.

Shared bottle at hotel room tasting. ABV is 3.3%. Deep golden colour. Aroma of malts, toffee and dust. Surprisingly hoppy flavour for a beer of this low ABV, quite nice, also noticeable malts. Might sample again.

Fruits, malts, toast and some floral hops in the aroma. Clear golden with a white head. Light to medium sweet and medium bitter. Light to medium body with a average carbonation. Bitter and dry finish. Overall a OK ale, but not something to remember.

500ml bottle from Hand Drawn Monkey, Huddersfield. Interesting, fairly original taste.. very light, slightly prickly gooseberries and citrus if a little watered down. Had this with a home cooked tikka masala and went down a treat. Wouldn’t necessarily have on its own again but with a meal it works well.

Bottle from Beer Gonzo- second Ilkley beer of the day. Pallid gold with a bright white collar. Soft orange and old lemon zest aroma; damp woodland, earth, pale malts, whiff of butter. Slight but decent with clean bready, honey-dripped popcorn malt; brittle limey hop, mineral suggestions, thistle and mown grass. Clinging bitter finish. Pencil shavings tipping into lager territory; heavily diluted lychee. Generally likeable and pretty flavoursome at the ABV.
