Inspired by an ancient Mayan recipe, Ilkley Brewery has created an extraordinary Stout. It is velvety smooth, bittersweet, and has a subtle smoky fire in its belly. The Mayan is a Chipotle Chocolate Stout, dare you take it on?

Bottle. Great stout, roasty with lots of chocolate, roasted malts, coffee, but with something extra - chipotle burning onthe palate. It is strong but it is not overpowering the flavour of the beer. Smooth and velvety on the palate. Medium bitter with spicy burning in the finish. Great beer.

500 ml. bbe 10/15. Opaque ebony with a creamy disc of foam and beautiful lace. Interesting nose is at first apple but then lingers with vanilla, coffee graham cracker and chocolate. Sweet front flavors of vanilla, cappuccino and biscotti turn to lightly tart apple and a spicy finish of earthy capsaicin. Medium body has a smooth carbonation and leans to the sweet side, but balances it out nicely with just the right dose of pepper.

Keg at Berkhamsted beer shop, Berkhamsted, Herts. A black coloured pour with a medium beige head on top. Chocolate, chilli, malty aroma. Tastes similar, chocolate, chilli, malty, bitter/sweet. Quite rich, I really liked it but half a pint was enough.

Bottle from Bier Huis. Pours dark brown, with a half finger tan coloured head. Aroma of chocolate, some Chilli for sure...Taste of initial chocolate, dark chocolate, almost like Sam Smiths Choc stout, then we have subtle chillis...I say subtle, they’re present but not in your face, nice and warming, not blasting your mouth away.

Tasted from the tap on the 14/06/2015. Deep brown to black colour with a foamy tan head. Aroma of lactose, cocoa and vanilla. Taste of chocolate, chipotle chilli, some earth and brown sugar. Medium body and soft carbonation. Next one please!

Draft at fire works Arlington. Pours black and luscious with a thick khaki head that leaves an absolute shitload of lacing. Lots of rich chocolate on the nose. Plenty of chocolate on the tongue as well. The heat from the chipotle is faint at first but builds as the beer warms up. Nice! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Tap @ Fire Works Courthouse - pours pitch with a tan head, nice lacing on the glass. Sweet dark chocolate on the nose, breadth notes. The taste is sweet on the initial attack, which transforms to bitter heat from the peppers. Goes great with my pizza. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Na, das kann man doch trinken, oder ? Schoen schokoladig mit einer dunklen, sehr suessen Seele, die im Hintergrund frisch und mit dieser feinen, ausbalancierten Schaerfe. Feine Sache das.
