Inspired by an ancient Mayan recipe, Ilkley Brewery has created an extraordinary Stout. It is velvety smooth, bittersweet, and has a subtle smoky fire in its belly. The Mayan is a Chipotle Chocolate Stout, dare you take it on?

Bottle 33 cl. Pours dark brown with a reddish hue and a creamy, beige head. Aroma is very sweet milk chocolate. Medium body, again sweet milk chocolate accents - appear artificial somehow - and then a discreet chili bite. A vague underlying roastiness. Pretty gross to be honest, and the flavour components are really a match made in hell. 260916

500ml bottle. Thin dark brown pour with a fine mocha head. Aroma of sweet cream, slight spiciness, and rich dark chocolate that lacks the usual cocoa bitterness. Light cream and chocolate on the tongue, with a pleasant chilli burn upon the swallow. Dry mouthfeel.

No está mal como stout, además de la gracia del chipotle que le da picor. Cuerpo medio. Tiene buen sabor pero no lo acabo de unir al picante. Aun así es bastante buena.

Black pour. Chocolate and vanilla aromas with some pepper. Taste is sweet chocolate before the chipotle does its magic. The burn is only moderate, making it possible to enjoy the whole drink. Dry finish with lingering chipotle burn. Too heavy on the chipotle during the end, but still good.

Aroma - syrupy chocolate similar to Hershey’s Syrup, faint roast, and a touch of spice. Appearance - black body. Head is 2+" and holds tightly, and buff in color. Taste - has a nice mix of milk chocolate and peppery spice. There is also soft yeast quality, usually reserved for hefeweizens. Palate - full body, creamy texture, carbonation is average, the finish is spicy finish.

Bottle from Latitude, Leeds. Black with next to no head. Has a strong chocolate aroma, with its spice subduing this greatly in its taste. It only provides a mild kick and fire in the palate though.

Bottle. Ruby body with a beige head. Faint lacing. Aroma of chocolate milkshake, fig and green pepper. Flavour of dark chocolate with a chilli burn. Medium body with a creamy mouthfeel. Soft fizz. Too spicy for me.

Bottle shared with the bro. Cheers Jamestulloch! Pours a black with little head. Aromas of chocolate, black pepper and big chocolate. Flavour is sweet chocolate, coffee and then a black pepper spice creeps up and nips the tongue. Mild spicy linger. Surprisingly rather enjoyable.
