Bottle from Rothís. Hazy golden straw in color with a bit of orange. Strong grapefruit nose with a little bit of graininess. Crisp and pretty refreshing. Good fruit taste with a touch of sweetness. Noticeable malt backbone. Not bad.

looks like carbonated grapefruit juice with virtually no head. Smells like grapefruit as expected. Taste is like a grapefruit soda with a watery thin body, so like a generic grapefruit soda. Had a feeling this was going to be another grapefruit let down and it was. I have had some good ones and even brewed up my own grapefruit ale a couple times that was excellent, so it can be done but it ainít this one.

Bottle from Total Wine in Folsom, CA. As Illusive Traveler Grapefruit Ale. Pours very hazy, somewhat dirty, gold with a very slight head. Aroma seems more orange/lemon than grapefruit. Med minus body. Flavor is kind of citrus candy, except there is citrus zest, and it is bitter. Probably ok on a really hot day, but it isnít really appealing. And I love grapefruit.

Bottle. Pours gold white head. Nose of rotten lemon peel, grapefruit juice and a little upchuck. Taste is grapefruit juice, wheat, lemon - light bodied.

12 oz bottle from a six pack. Aroma is grapefruit, vomit, generic beer, bread. Pours cloudy orange with a medium white head with good retention. Taste is sweet (was expecting tart), grainy, grapefruit, wheaty, finishes dry and lightly bitter. Creamy mouthfeel, thin body. I thought the scores on here were low for this. Beer snobs tend to look down on these shandies and radlers, after all. I was expecting a refreshingly tart beer with strong grapefruit flavor. After drinking it, I know the low scores this is getting are well-deserved! Itís not terrible, but I thought it was going to be one of those underrated beers that I tend to like. Not so.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a medium, well retained, off white head, over a hazy light amber (SRM 6) body.......nose is grapefruit, slight lemon minimal cereal malts, no hops, balance to the grapefruit juice......taste is sweet, with heavy grapefruit juice, hints of lemon, hints of base malts, no hops.....mouth feel, light body, no alcohol, high carbonation. The grapefruit juice is utterly dominant, making for a very simple and not particularly interesting beer. The base beer has about as much personality as a Pale Lager. BJCP 5/2/10/3/6

Hazy orangeish golden with a thin foamy cap. Clean crisp aroma with lemon juice and a dash of grapefruit. Smooth crisp flavor with a wheaty body, some lemon zest, some grapefruit zest, and a clean wheaty citrusy finish. Not shabby, just a touch predictable.

Poured from draft with a small off white head about one finger high. Smells very grapefruity and sweet. Taste is very sweet and has far too much grapefruit juice for me. Palate has decent carb and an ok mouth feel. Overall, not my style of beer and far too sweet won't be drinking again.

Pours a cloudy golden orange with an off white head. Big grapefruit aroma and taste. Other hints of sweet candy, and orange. Very refreshing.

Bottle. A- Grapefruits, grapefruit juice, slightly tart, bitter. A- Orange color, cloudy liquid, white head. T- Grapefruit juice, bitter, slightly sour, slightly tart. P- Light body, average texture, average carbonation, bitter finish. O- Nothing artificial tasting about this one. This is full on grapefruit. If you are a fan of pure grapefruit juice then this is going to be a hit with you. Otherwise youíll probably hate it. But for a shandy, this is quite okay in my book. A little salt or sugar on the glass rim and it would be really enjoyable. Maybe my new breakfast beer.
