Can: The aroma is moderate-heavy roast, lighter coffee, chocolate, and faint pine. It pours a dark brown with no transparency and a one finger beige head that quickly diminishes to a thin film. There is some nice webbing left on the sides of the glass. The flavor starts with a quick dose of dark chocolate. The finish turns to heavy coffee, burnt notes, roast, and pine. Itís medium bodied with light-mild carbonation. Overall, I would say this definitely fits into the hoppy Porter category.

Can via khoffman43. Pours deep amber capped by a tan head. Nose of pine, chocolate, and roast. Taste begins with pine and roast that mellows to chocolate. Bitterness is ample and strong. Body is solid, alcohol warms at times.

can from Atom for winning his free beer contest; only have had a few bipaís and not a fan of any - including this one - by looking at all the other ratings; skip mine - just didnít like the flavor esp. back end - some hops but nothing very weird ending - dry hops??

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Can thanks to Santa. Dark brown pour with a fluffy beige head. Aroma was full piney citrusy hops mixed with a nice toasty dark malt kick. Nice balance. Flavors were hop forward with notes of chocolate and roasted malt. Nice velvety mouthfeel, light to standard carbonation. Really excellent stuff. Paired nicely with a Papas Fritas.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
12 oz. can, sent from khoffman43 (thanks Kyle), pours black with a fairly small tan / light brown head. Aroma is super roasted, with dark roasted malt and burnt espresso, atop some harsh citrus hops - lovely nose. Flavour brings out bitter, dry cocoa, dark roasted malt and slightly burnt espresso, with some fairly potent sprucey, piney hops to balance, leaving a super dry and highly roasted, slightly bitter finish. Delicious black IPA - this is how you do them right.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Poured from a 12 ounce can thanks to khoffman. Thanks! Pours a dark brown, near black with a khaki colored head of thin foam. The aroma has some chocolate, but it is dominated by earthy hop character. Taste is bitter and the chocolate really comes through as I sip. Sweet on the backend and has a nice chocolatey finish. Really nice Black IPA.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
12 oz. can (the second from a six-pack), consumed on 12-18-12. Resin-y aroma features chocolate, pine, char, and coffee scents. Pours a dark brown with a large amount of thick, dark type, long-lasting head. Produces good lacing. Tasty, enjoyable, hoppy flavor features coffee, tar, and pine elements. Good balance of stout and IPA aspects. Medium body. Soft and lively in the palate. Refreshing. Overall, Indeed Midnight Ryder is a good example of the style. Itís a solid 3.7 beer if Iíve ever had one. 7/4/7/4/15=>3.7

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Can from khoffman43. Thanks again Kyle! This one pours a very dark brown color with a lasting frothy tan head. The aroma is wonderful with lots of piney and citrusy hops accented by chocolaty malts. Potent and complex. The flavor is extremely bitter with strong spicy and piney hops, hints of grapefruit and coffee. The finish is bitter with a good dose of roasted malt. this is one of those beers that reminds me how good this style can be when done correctly. Iím really digging this new brewery!

Black color with a small head. Strong piney hop aroma. Very strong bitterness. Piney and dank. Light roasted malt. Very dry. I personally loathe Black IPAs... and this one sold me.
