COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Midnight Ryder – a hat tip to Bischoff’s son, Elliott Ryder – is cloaked in mystery and full of surprises. A style of disputed origins and merit, American Black Ale puts a distinctly American twist on the India Pale Ale with five varieties of malt that give this dark beer a medium body and a complex array of flavors including caramel, chocolate and a smidgen of roast. Sealing the deal are six varieties of American-grownhops added throughout the 90-minute boil. This beer offers a resinous and piney character with just enough citrus to bring balance at the finish line.

Had a can from a 6-pack poured in to a pint glass in Mankato, MN. Very good well rounded black IPA. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12 ounce can courtesy of TheHOFF43. Thanks! Dark brown, large foamy tan head, good retention. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, mild floral hops. The taste is roasted malts, nuts, dark chocolate, herbal almost piney hops. Medium bodied.

Tap at the brewery. Pint glass. Black with tan head that sticks around for drinking enjoyment. Roasted malt and some citrus hops on the nose. Some smoke. Taste is pretty standard black IPA but it’s above average. Lots of hop with a roasted malt backbone. Little chocolate and coffee. Really enjoyable hop-centric effort that is a good flagship for the brewery. I’d purchase with my one last silver dollar.

Pours dark black with a beige head. Smells of hops, chocolate and roasted malts. Tastes the same. Very good balance and easy to drink. A great example of the style.

Keg @ Indeed. Deep brown. Pine cone and cocoa. Some cream. Lovely aggressive PNW hoppiness. Rich ash and dark chocolate. Pillowy and full. Slightly dry on the finish. Medium body, soft carb. Great.
