Pour is viscous opaque black with tight dark tan head. The nose is heavy on the roast, a touch chalky, bitter coffee, and a bit earthy. The taste is big, roasty, earthy, chocolatey. The finish is bitter coffee and lingers, the body is thick, creamy, highly carbonated. Not bad, a touch on the roasty/bitter side.

Dark brown/black pour with foamy tan head and lace. Large chocolate and a hinto coffee aroma. Chocolate, large coffee, a good malt bitter, and a nice abv warmth. Medium bodied with good carbonation.

Bottle thanks to fata2683: Poured a thick oil crude black with bubble brown head, not that there was a lot. Aroma is light but rich roasted malts. Taste is smooth with roasted malt, soft chocolate, very soft and silky finish. Alcohol is in the back but very well hidden.

12oz bottle from Atxdelivery. Pours near black with two finger tan head. Aromas of roasted malts, chocolate, bit of coffee, and fruity notes. Flavors of chocolate, roasted malts, light coffee, some bitterness in the finish. Body is a tad thin. Solid stout.

Man this looks like a real winter beer. Almost no carbonation, and very viscus. Plenty of coffee notes, making it a great after dinner beer. Some roasty notes as well as chocolate and toffee. Mouthfeel is on the thinner side. Taste is extremely roasted, with some carbonation notes in there. Not nearly as sweet as I would have expected. Very roasted finish with some hop character. Overall, a nice beer but lacking some depth.

UPDATED: MAR 31, 2012 Now, this, I was extremely surprised with. I didn’t know it was an "imperial" stout, and that’s perhaps why I expected something much weaker and overall less bold, but this truly is something. The nose features some really strong roasted notes—almost overpowering the sweet, chocolatey notes that one usually expects of this kind of beer. There is also a milky, powdery oatmeal character on the background that mellows things out a bit. At this point I hadn’t read anything about it being an "imperial" stout, so I was a bit surprised the aroma was so potent, yet the lack of alcohol notes (which *did* become a bit more obvious as the beer warmed up a bit) led me to no conclusion about the abv. The pour is absolutely gorgeous, with a half-inch head that’s colored like chocolate powder. The palate is firm and thick, but not to the point where it would feel syrupy. The taste is very much that of roasted malts—but it is rounded out nicely by the oatmeal backbone. The aftertaste is tarrish, like cigarette ashes and roasted grain, with hops and a touch of sugars. Overall, this is an excellent effort and a beer I’ll be sure to come back to.

An expressive pour into my large Tripel Karmeliet tulip produces a three-finger thick, light brown colored head. The beer is an opaque, near perfect black color. The aroma smells sweet up front with notes of burnt prune, a bright malt sweetness, and something that makes me think of the sweetness in milk. This is backed by a subdued, roasted note that adds some cold coffee like aromatics (some burnt acidity, a touch of acrid dark roast coffee, but a fruity roasted character too) that become more noticeable as my senses adjust to this beer. When you really dig there is a touch of spiciness to the nose that seems to be a combination of the mostly not noticed alcohol and the burnt notes. As the beer warms up a nice, brown bread like, whole grain toasted character comes out in the aroma.
Smooth and somewhat dense feeling as I take my first sip, but this also has a touch of a carbonic prickle to it and the density is balanced by a bitter, lightly acrid roast character that comes to dominate the finish. The roast character lingers on the palate with the flavor of deeply burnt, but still fairly smooth grain. This is sweet tasting, especially up front, which accentuates a burnt fruitiness that reminds me of prunes or perhaps raisins, but really the sweetness just reminds me of sugar; charred sugars for sure, but also notes of burnt caramelized malt and dark chocolate. As my palate adjusts to the beer it gets less sweet, more roasted and with more notes of bitter dark chocolate. There is a firm bitterness here that is from both hops and roast character and there is also a sort of spiciness to the roast grain character in the finish. The roast character also brings a touch of tartness that helps to balance the sweetness.
This beer is definitely hitting the spot right now, significantly roasted, with lots of dark chocolate notes, sweetness and bitterness in balance as well as a richness that is just hitting the spot on this cold December evening in Tucson.

Half pint at Ginger Man in Austin. I drank about half because of the high ABV and it was too early on NYE to over do alcohol. It was very good, though. Very rich and dark with a roasted nose that also had some cocoa. The flavor was roasted with a coffee bitterness but it was quite smooth. The alcohol was well hidden. This was very nicely done.
