3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
My first Texas beer! Got this one as an extra in a recent trade with jenray. Poured into my NB Globe.
A - Pours pitch black with a small one finger tall tan head leaving minimal lacing down the glass.
S - Smells of rich coffee, chocolate, dark roasted malt, and a touch of booze. Not overly complex yet enjoyable none the less.
T - Starts off with a big dose of dark roast and coffee grounds that linger throughout the sip. Some chocolatey sweetness creeps in after the roast dies down a touch but it doesnít stick around for very long. Finish is pretty roasty with a small alcohol burn.
M - Heavy body and flavor with moderate carbonation. Dark, roasty, feel that clings to the pallet after each sip.
O - Not too bad. It was fairly well balanced and easy to drink. This one really hit the spot on a cold night like tonight.

A great beer. Very strong however. Poured into a snifter from bottle. Smells good but I am having trouble describing it. It is very dark with a dark tan, slim head. The taste is empowering. It has a strong, almost coffee taste to it. Good carbonation.
A really good beer brewed close to my hometown. I am definitely going to enjoy this one slow though!

BottleÖ this beer rocks!Ö Pours tar black with a small, creamy, well-tanned head. Great retention. The aroma is a medley of toasted tree nuts alongside huge, rich mocha and a whisper of vanilla. Full-bodied with a velvety mouthfeel and modest carbonation. Roasty, toasty and mildly bitter. Deeply roasted finish. Excellent oatmeal stout. Kudos to ericandersnavy for shipping this world class beer to me!

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
GABF 2011. Black with a thin beige head. Aroma of funky yeasty roasted black malt, a faint tone of oats. Tastes of toasted dark chocolate malts, oats, licorice, and black grains. Medium bodied with no linger. Very malty, but also kinda burnt tasting with only medium sweetness. Wasnít really into it.

Black pour, nice brown head. Roasty aroma, some chocolate, pure and syrup, and some ash. Flavor is bitter with a tad more sweetness than I expected. Ashy, prunes, chocolate. Pretty good stuff.

Bottle. Pours black with a creamy light brown head that dissipates slowly to the edges. Aroma is full of roasted malts with some light chocolate and a hint of coffee. Flavor begins with roasted malts and coffee (a bit weak) but has a nice creamy chocolate finish.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Roasty and chocolate malt aroma, and boozy on the nose. Itís pitch black with a dark tan head that quickly fizzles down. The taste is fairly complex, but in a muddled way.

12 oz bottle. Pours a deep black with rich chocolate head. Aroma of dark roast and chocolate. Flavor is the same and very malty with bitter-sweet chocolate and nice dark roast bitterness. Mouthfeel is heavy and creamy with low carbonation. Overall, excellent stout!

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Well, itís black, as is to be expected from a stout. Smells like coffee, a bit ashy, and a chocolatey, too. Very heavy mouthfeel, very smooth and rich. Flavor is coffee and dark chocolate. Alcohol is well hidden - I didnít realize it was an imperial stout until I came to rate it. It also lacks any of the fruity, boozy characteristics Iíve come to associate with imperial stouts. Thatís not really a complaint, though, I enjoyed it quite a bit - even on a 90+ degree afternoon. Thanks, secret santa!
