Pour is dark brown and a rich and super dense khaki head...very tight bubbled and very attractive...smell is rich and roasty chocolaty...some ints of coffee in there too, but just a wonderful cocoa and chocolaty nose...so far, this is the most impressive beer I have EVER had from Independence...Braggot, Stash, and Convict Hill have all been great leaps forward in quality from them and have slowly turned me into a fan...taste is rich and chocolaty...almost onesidedly so, but not really...it almost tastes like an Oreo cookie...sweet up front then a bit dry and chocolaty...a hugely thick and viscous mouthfeel...nice lingering finish...no HINT of booze at all...how is this? What a wonderful job!

Sedimentary cocoa color. Small but lasting head. Fruity alcohol aroma. Dark fruit flavor with cocoa toasty malt and alcohol. Powdery palate. Heavy lacing.

On tap at Anvil. Pours a mahogany black pour with a mocha head. Nose of vanilla, chocolate and sweet malts. Flavor is pretty rich and flavorful...with good vanilla, chocolate and some bourbon notes. Nice beer, although a bit sweet for me.

On tap at The Petrol Station. Pours a dark brown with small creamy beige head that lasts awhile. The aroma is a light roasted malt and vanilla. Thin mouthfeel with a light roasted malt with chocolate and mocha. Hides the alcohol extremely well making it very easy to drink. Very impressed and really enjoyed this Imperial porter from Independence.

I drank this from a plastic cup at Whole Foods as I shopped yesterday. The nose was rich and chocolatey. It poured a deep, dark brown, almost black with a very small head that disappeared quickly. The taste matched the nose with a very rich chocolate but I found a very pleasant balance between bitter and sweet in the chocolate. It lingered a little while on the palate but was very smooth and had a medium to heavy-medium body. Overall it was the best beer I’ve had from Independence and would gladly recommend it to friends and/or order it again for myself.
