COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

0.5l bottle from Fenaknoken, Oslo. My first Kölch! Pours a heavy cloudy really pale yellow-gray body with some big dark sediments and a nice big and lasting light creamy white head. Aroma is pale malt, some citrus, a light hint of hay and some light grapefruit and hopy notes as well. Lively carbonation, light oily mouthfeeling and medium to light-bodied. Tastes light malty, some more hay and some light citrus notes. It can actually remind me a bit of mineral water flavored with malts and a drop of lemon. Mild malty aftertaste and it’s leaving the mouth kinda dryish.

My first kölsch! Light yellow hazy body with a huge, white, dense, fully lasting, frothy head that leaves incredible amounts of lacing. The fruity and spicy aroma is a bit faint but still very nice, there are citric notes, yeast and some sweet honey. The taste is light sweet, light acidic and light bitter, with a long-lasting very dry bitter finish. Flavours are spices, yeast and citrus. Rather light body, but the soft to medium carbonation is perfect and I love the dryness, so I award it a high Palate score. I understand from the other ratings of this beer that it might not be typical for the style, but I really enjoyed this one!
[50 cl bottle, best before March 2012, from Fenaknoken, Oslo]

ClubGonzo (1987) - Bergen, NORWAY - MAR 19, 2011
Bottle from Vaaland Spesialbutikken. Pours a pale orange body with a huge white, cloudy head. Aroma is grassy, yeasty hop notes with floral hints. Not too impressive in its constellation. Taste is similarly a kinda grass-hopped farmhouse ale, only with a watery palate and relieved of most things good or exciting. But the worst is: Kölsch? KÖLSCH?? WTF?? This is an insult to anyone familiar with the style’s intelligence, as well as the brewers of German lager beer: this has NOTHING to do with a German kölsch, and it annoys me that Inderøy seemingly picked the term out of a beer book and presents this beer as a style they must know is pretty obscure to most Norwegians, in order to come across as knowledgeable about beer. I know I’m at a risk of sounding like a snob here, but this is simply ridiculous. Lots of minus points for this pretentious move by Inderøy. Shame on you. :-(

Bottled. An unclear golden beer with a lazing beige head. The aroma has notes of spices as well as hints of plastic. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt and plastic.

Hazy, murky, yellow color, tiny white head. Yeasty, wheaty and spicey witbier-like aroma. Crisp carbonation. Yeasty, spicey. Wheat, coriander, cardboard. Not really a Kölsch. Messy.

Bottled (thanks Papsoe!). Hazy yellow colour, small white head. Aroma is earthcellar, some bready malts, mild fruits, herbal notes. Flavour is slightly fruity, mild bready malts and mild spices. Quite pleasant. Not cleanly Kölsch, but clearly you can see the inspiration from the interpretation. Kinda witbier meets Kölsch.

05.03.2010, 0,5l Bottle. Batch number 942. Thanks to Sven L! Pale yellow colour with a very big white head. Nice smooth malty aroma with a fruity malty aroma. I’m not sure what makes this one a Kølsch?

Bottle, 50cl, from Fenaknoken, Oslo. Brew no. 912. Pale golden, slightly hazy colour. Large, persistent head. Fruity/buttery aroma. Fairly flat palate. Medium-bodied with a growing tangy flavour that turns into a (bit overly) dry finish. Refreshing, but probably best accompanied by food.
