3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 yngwie (10760) - Kristiansand, NORWAY - JAN 30, 2009
Bottle. A nice clear, brown body is topped by a finger-thick beige head. The aroma is quite weak, with roasted malts, caramel and some hops. Roasted malts and caramel in the flavor too, with a touch of dried fruits, a little nutty note, sweetness and a decent hop level. Medium body. Roasted finish with some bitterness. A rather boring beer, but easy to drink and sure not bad. (081130)
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 larsga (5325) - Oslo, NORWAY - JAN 8, 2009
Medium shiny yellowish beige coarseish head doesn’t last. Hazy deep dark translucent red-brown body, Fruity bubble-gum and banana aroma with dusty roasty licorice and rye bread notes. Kind of separated into two independently harmonic aromas, but still works well. Dry-sweetish minty roasty dusty taste with tropical fruit hop notes. Faint bubblegum notes. Body is mid-to-thin, palate clean, delicate, and fresh. Delicate dry burnt coffee and minty papery aftertaste with faint chocolatey notes and some overripe fruit. Faint acidity throughout. Very nice, and highly drinkable. (0.5l bottle via KnutAlbert. Batch #848 or #842; hard to say for certain.)
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Gr0ve (2038) - Oslo, NORWAY - JAN 2, 2009
500 ml bottle. Dark brown colour with a hint of red. Slightly hazy. Medium-sized light beige head. Soft münchener malt. Delicate aroma with Christmas cakes and roasted malts. Powdery texture. Cacao and melanoidins both blend into a soft and very enjoyable mix where none of the flavours stand out, but instead create a delicious whole. Finished powdery dry with a slight hop bitterness. Excellent beer. Not particularly complex, but the flavours meld together beautifully into a really great beer. Thanks to KnutAlbert for getting hold of this one.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 tarjei (1954) - Bryne, NORWAY - DEC 19, 2008
50 cl bottle at Cardinal, Stavanger. Dark brown color, nice beige head. Aroma is very malty. Flavor has a lot of malt and a bit sweetness, also some sourness - but not a bad one.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Sigmund (4169) - Tau, NORWAY - NOV 19, 2008
500 ml bottle, brew #816, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 4.5%. Dark brown colour, big and creamy beige head. Nice malty sweetish aroma with loads of caramel and fresh bread, also some fruity notes. The flavour is also malty with some bready notes, hints of caramel but not really sweet, moderate hops. Some fruity notes in the finish. Hints of resin in the aftertaste. Has not really got anything to make it stand out as a Yule/Christmas beer, but it is a nice and drinkable dunkel nevertheless.
