This smooth rich dark southern German dobblebock is an Indian Wells Brewing Co. favorite. This 10.8% beer is powerful, but VERY easy to drink! This beer is not for the timid. A few of them and you’ll feel like you’ve had a frontal lobotomy the next day. Consume with caution!

Pours dark mahogany with barely translucent edging. A half inch head of off white fizzled away quickly making way for a placid surface and a few dots of lacework. Aromatics are promishing with fresh, doughy malt, a bit of chocolate, and raisins. Slightly sweet with caramel overtones. Thinnish mouthfeel and light bodied. Some light malt, hints of chocolate and caramel, and a trace of warming alcohol on the palate. A trace or raisins and toffee quickly follow through before a quick finish. Finishes with light malt and pretty much non offensive. This one drinks like a "Dopplebock-light". Nothing really to detract besides lack of flavor. Thanks to SacodeToro for the bonus brew!

~Rich malty aroma of cocoa, bread, and caramel. ~Pours black with small wispy white head. ~Malty flavor of cocoa, bread, caramel, light roast. ~medium bodied, medium light CO2, clean smooth malty light roast finish. ~This is enjoyable, although unmemorable. Surprising that it is over 10% alc. Taste and smells more like a porter than a Doppelbock.

Bottle. Pours a deep dark black with bubbles and no head. Malt aroma, of brown sugar, a bit of roastiness. Taste is crisp and highly carbonated, of toasted malt mainly and some yeast. Hides the alcohol completely. Lingering crispness without much flavor. Very drinkable but not a lot going on.

Aroma all about malt is this aroma. Dark rye bread feel. Clean execution.
Appearance :
Top: medium lighter tanned top.
Base: dark amber.
Palate : medium bodied with thinner walls.
Taste: plain bready malty experience. Toasty feel behind. Alcohol well covered creating pleasant warmth.
other notes refreshing change from Hop dominant world. Try at big Empty.

Pours no head on a dark brown body. The aroma is caramel candy. Nice. The taste starts mildly sweet with dark fruits, then turns sour to the end. The texture is crisp and fizzy. Not a good flavor profile.

Rated based on notes taken 28 May 2012 -- Picked this bottle up in San Antonio. I was pretty underwhelmed by this beer. Watery.

22 oz bottle. 12%. (Albertsons) Ridgecrest, CA.
Dark reddish brown colour with a small light tan head. Sweet malt, mild hops and some sugary notes in the aroma. The flavour is sweetness, malt, berries and some hoppy bitterness. The 12% is surprisingly well hidden. No alcohol flavour.

Nice solid bock. Surprisingly mellow flavor, but good maltiness. Hint -- for food pair, works well with spicy foods.

Bottle. Pours a deep brown near-black body with a small off-white head. Nose is caramel, licorice, chocolate, toffee and hints of bread crust, red fruits and mild leather. Taste is chocolate, bready malts, alcohol, caramel, toast and hints of licorice, toffee and nuts. Medium body and carbonation. Very big, roast and alcoholic in its composition, yet the body - despite being a lager beer - seems a bit too thin in comparison to the extremely high ABV. Pretty nice, without being overtly convincing.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a fizzy, thin, totally unretained, ivory head, over, a clear brown (SRM 20) body.....nose is light cereal, minimal fruits, no hops.....taste is slightly sweet, barest hints of dried fruits, minimal hops.....mouth feel light of medium, alcohol heat present, carbonation adds fizz. This is a remarkably simple example of the style with only the barest hints of what it should have in aroma and flavor. If this bottle were not abused, and I can’t know its history, then the recipe needs a boat load of rework. BJCP 6/2/9/3/5

"at 10.8 i still had hope for this one after 6 crappy beers, but it sucked as well. i’m actually surprised at the decent scores it’s received. looks great, but for lack of head, like most of em. this had a nice malt backbone on top of what wound up as a drainpour beer. i really hope this isn’t the best they can do. this brewery sucks! where the hell are the high three’3 coming from? not from what i drank
