COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
As a young boy in the 1940’s, Cliff Fyffe used to Comtemplate the old, broken whiskey barrels in the Evan Williams Distillery Yard. He noticed the barrels were sweating out the aged Kentucky whiskey in the summer heat. The whiskey would pool in the barrels in amazing quantity. Cliff shared this memory with the Indian Wells Brewing Co. founders, Rick and Greg, who suddenly had an inspiriation! They reached out and contaced Evan Williams Distillery directly and ordered a dozen, 55 gallon, used oak barrels that had held their flagship whiskey for two years. Indian Wells Brewing Co. then left these barrels in the direct Mojave Desert sun until the whiskey sweated out. When the barrels were ready, they brewed a special ’amber’ style lager by using their own natural artesian spring water, filling the whiskey barrels and allowing them to lager down to 34-degrees for months. The beer in this custom designed 1/2 gallon growler is the result; our own delicious whiskey barrel aged amber lager. It pairs well with BBQ and is just great for sipping. We hope you enjoy drinking it as much as we enjoyed making it. Cheers, Rick and Greg

Not a good barrel aged beer. Pours a quite beautiful clear red with a thick tan head. Not much of any smell, a bit of malts and caramel. Taste is more like a malt liquor, or a very malty dunkel. Malts and caramel, and some berries, Not much of any flavor otherwise. Quite empty finish for a 12% ale. Had in the bottle.

Pours a light amber color with a faint oaked whiskey aroma. Taste is more of a cleean filtered shot of whiskey more than a beer. An aftertaste of wood and grained whiskey, actually llent itself to a smooth flavored liquid. Only issue, the beer flavor was lost with the whiskey overwhelming it.

"Ummm...yeahhhhh. In some ways, lived up to the "hype". Since I like the taste of bourbon in general, this was not nearly as god-awful as many indian wells beers. in that way, maybe even among their best. but that ain’t sayin much. the look (light even for an amber/red), aroma (or lack thereof, especially when colder), & flavor (like a shot o bourbon with a couple melted ice cubes in it). Really astounding the lack of beer presence in this beer. But being that it’s from Indian Wells, maybe that’s a good thing."

[5652-20130816] Bottle. Heavily sweetened floral malt vodka aroma. Clear, orange amber body with a quick foamy off-white head. Wooden barrel bark and a whiskey-infused fruity base flavour. Medium body. Interesting but also kind of average. (6/3/6/3/13) 3.1

22oz waxed bottle picked up in CA
Pours clear dark amber with a medium sized off-white head and lots of lacing. Aroma of toasted malts, woody and vanilla. Flavors of whiskey, coconut, vanilla and woody
Decent, smooth, It doesn’t taste like a 12% beer

Waxed bomber from Cost Plus. This beer is basically a malty amber lager with little in the way of hops. The barrel flavorings may add a little vanilla and not much else. Amazing how bland this beer is for being 12% and barrel aged. I’m just glad I only had to pay 6 bucks a bomber.

22oz bottle in a tulip. Pours amber with an off-white head. Aroma of whiskey and caramel malts and dough and bread. Flavor the same. Average texture. Let me tell you a story about the brewers’ conversation as they made this. Brewer 1, "Hey, we got some bourbon barrels." Brewer 2, "I just finished brewing this generic amber ale. Maybe we could fill the barrels with that!" Brewer 1, "Great idea. This beer is sure to have a weighted average of 2.83 on Ratebeer!"

Pours clear amber with medium tan head out of bottle. Aroma of caramel, wheat, and fruit. Good flavor of cherry and apple with wheat. Good beer overall. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

A- pours a crystal clear amber with a half finger of light tan head. Mild lacing. S- sweet caramel malts, apple pie, cinnamon, danish, ripe pear and some mild bubble gum yeast. M- light to medium sticky and watery body with a sweet light to medium palate. Odd for a 12% beer. T- light water entry with the malts and apples. Some sour wood in the middle. Breads as well. Alcohol is well hidden. Ending is mild with a long faint bitterness. Grasses and lemon zest with a bit of caramel.
