Bigger alcohol breakfast porter. Fresh coffee aroma. A good coffee taste, cold brewed, with a chocolate backbone. Good drinkability. Much more coffee than their regular porter. Ginger in the finish to give it that x-mas spicy character. Dark black with creamy appearance. Average mouthfeel.

[4201-20111218] Tap. Sweet roasted caramel malt aroma. Black body with a long-lasting creamy tan head. Christmas spices like nutmeg in the flavour with only a hint of roasted coffee in the finish. Full body. Tasty, fairly drinkable. (6/3/7/4/15) 3.5

2011-12-18. Very dark brown body with a nice tan head. 3+ Flavour is similar to the gingerbread with a milder but similar spice character and modest coffee overtones that linger in the finish. Aroma is similar, spice melange and modest coffee bean like roast. Average plus to medium bodied palate. I probably would have enjoyed this had I tried them in the reverse order, as it was this had less of the spice I liked in the Gingerbread version, and replaces it with coffee notes that I do not personally care for. Nice beer, not to my own tastes. On tap at Brewer’s Market, Toronto

Draught pint at The Brewery market. It was probably a mistake to have this after the Gingerbread version, as the more subdued spicing of this one made it a bit standoffish when compared to it’s more aggressive sibling. Still, it’s a very nice beer thanks to the base beer (the Breakfast Porter) being pretty damn good on its own, and the coffee and spice notes being well balanced. And truth be told, as much as I liked the Gingerbread variation, I could probably drink more of this one in a session. Whatever the case, they both prove Indie to be a welcome addition to Toronto’s beer scene.
