[6179-20140215] Tap. Grainy roast coffee malt aroma. Brown black body with a quick foamy mocha head. Bourbon coffee woody roast flavour has a bitter soya chocolate finish. Full body. Good, packs a punch. (7/3/7/4/16) 3.7

A deep dark stout with a thin mocha head. In aroma, sweet fruity chocolate malt with light Brett and bourbon notes. In mouth, a nice smooth sweet fruity chocolate malt with light coffee and bourbon notes, light cherry, licorice, nice. On tap at brewery.

Black pour with medium sized beige head. Aroma of roasted malts, coffee, chocolate, caramel, vanilla and faint bourbon. Taste of roasted malts, espresso, chocolate, caramel, coconut, slight herbs, green vanilla beans, slight bourbon and faint hops. Full bodied, creamy mouthfeel. What I loved about this beer was the perfect balance of everthing, this is one kick ass beer!

(On tap at the brewpub, Mar 8 2014). Pours black, small bubbly pale tan head, no lace. Aroma of dark malt and coffee, slightly toasted, light bourbon character with wood/vanilla. Flavour heavy on roasted coffee with some dark malt sweetness at first. Dries really quickly, however, with a fair amount of roast and a fairly light touch of wood/vanilla and bourbon compared to some takes on the style. This seemed like a breakfast stout with a bit of oats in it? Finish is very dry, coffee, roast and a little lingering barrel character. Mouthfeel medium, a little creamy, very soft carb. It’s fairly easy-drinking actually and far from the booze, roast or barrel bombs that it could have been, but I think I prefer my impys a bit less dry. I also wish I’d had it before Icebreaker.

2014-02-15. Black body not much head. Aroma of coffee beans, sort of vegetal green-ness to the coffee character. Flavour is similar, odd vegetational coffee bean over a sweetish dark malt core. Average plus bodied palate, modest carbonation. Decent, it is better than my notes make it sound but the coffee character is just really not to my tastes. I also think I might have enjoyed this more if I had it prior to the Icebreaker. On tap at the brewpub, Toronto

Draft at the Indie. Nice dark opaque colour as a stout should be. Thinner tan head than I expected. Nose of bourbon, oak and malt. Taste, big taste of coffee, bourbon definitely there, oak and malts. Good beer, a little heavy one the coffee for my tastes, but good.

[Draught at brewpub] Pours black with a small semi-lasting fizzy tan head. Big malty aroma along with some light bourbon, light wood, vanilla, alcohol, grapes, some maple syrup-like sweetness and more. Barrel-aging is there in the flavour (bourbon, wood and vanilla) but it’s more subtle then some, along with roasted malt and dark fruit. Medium bodied. This is great stuff!
