Homebrewer’s Tap Takeover collaboration with Biergotter Homebrew Club. An initial assault of grapefruit and pine hops givers way to bittersweet chocolate and a rich, malty backbone.

[5819-20130917] Tap. Roasted coffee malt grain aroma has some toasted fruit. Black body with a long-lasting creamy brown head. Bitter roasted fruit malt flavour. Full body. Very tasty but not sure I could handle a whole pint to myself. (8/4/7/3/15) 3.7

Draught at ’Indie Alehouse Homebrewers Tap Takeover’. Pours black with ruby hues and a small frothy tan head. Aroma is malty along with lots of piney hops, chocolate and some alcohol. Roasty flavour along with a surprising amount of piney hops, alocohol, some chocolate and a dry, roasty bitter finish. Medium bodied. Slightly creamy mouthfeel. A bit boozy but really good.

(Draught at brewpub, Sept 17 2013) Pours black, quite a large tan head of dense froth, lots of lace. Aroma is big and hop-forward, fresh pine, leaves and citrus fruit, very little malt making it past the hops in the nose. Flavour starts with those leafy, citrusy hops as well and then the nice roasted/dark malts come through, a bit of chocolate playing nicely with the green hops. There’s a fair amount of hop bitterness in the finish, but also dry roasted malt notes. Body medium-full, somewhat oily, carb creamy and rich. This was a superb black IPA, no matter what one chooses to call it - the balance of the hops and malt and overall feel of the beer were bang on. Made me stay at the bar just to have a full glass...

All the characteristics of a black IPA, with emphasis on the hops over the roast. Display of homebrews brewed at Indie, tap takeover. A lot of C-hop,brewer emphasizing Cascade.

2013-09-17. Black body with a nice creamy tan head and lace. 4+ Aroma is pleasantly hoppy, leafy green hop character. Flavour starts out quite hoppy, pleasantly citrusy hops and green leafy notes give way to lightly dusty dry roast character in the finish. Light alcohol. Got a full glass of this later and the richness of the base malt comes through much more. The balance of the hops and the roast are close to perfect for my tastes. Very smooth medium to full bodied palate, moderate carbonation. 4+ Very nice, great balance of flavours. I really liked this. On tap at Indie Alehouse Homebrewers Tap Takeover event, Toronto Beer Week
