COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dark amber. Malt and sweetness add to the complex flavor which ends in a moderately dry finish. This Belgian-style double is brewed with traditional candi-sugar. Candi-Man A salute to the Monastic breweries of the Middle Ages, this Belgian-style Double Ale is brewed with fine pilsner malt & Belgian candi sugar. A traditional ingredient in Belgian abbey ales, candi sugar provides a deep amber color and complex flavors.

bottle @ dak’s 9/5/10. brown pour with burnt orange highlights and a lasting off white film. odd aroma of raw peanuts, candi sugar, grain and something tart. tartness carries over to the flavor in the form of green apples and batteries mixed with caramel and peanuts. it is flawed, tart and sharp. holy hell, this is supposed to be a dubbel?! 4/3/2/1/

Wow is this stuff bad. Poured an Opaque brown color with a small beige head. Aroma was really off, like dog food or something, and not im not exaggerations. Taste was vegetal, sour but in a bad way and in now way resembled a dubbell. I asked the person who poured it what spices were in it in case maybe it was just something i wasnt used to and he told me there were no spices, thats just the great character of the belgian yeast that makes those flavors. HAHAHAHAH

Bottle. Poured into a NB tulip glass a slighlty cloudy bright amber orange color with a 1/2 finger slightly tan head that recedes quickly. Raisin, clove, miminal spice, and slight booze are all found in the nose. Medium mouthfeel. Pretty sweet start with both a mix of some dark fruit along with some apple. Some booze notes as well, especially in the end. Ends kind of flat. Overall, not bad but not really extremely memorable as well. It has a semi sweet tart start that was slightly surprising. Really no lace left at all.

Burnt amber color with a small head. Aroma of light fruit, yeast and sweet malt. Flavor is sweet. Too sweet. With a touch of fruit. Whatever!

12 oz. bottle. Pours a dark and cloudy sienna color with a small, smooth head of beige foam. Fading quickly to just a thin ring, the head gives small, wet splotches of lacing to the glass. The aroma is sweet, showing a malt base of amber candi sugar, toasted honey, and some glazed cereal grain. Grain of Paradise is distinct, as hints of minty, lightly tart (unintentionally?) yeast and earthen flower petals waft in. Flavors follow suit, again showing that obtrusive tart yeast profile that seems to cut down the candied malt sugars and leave the Grain of Paradise as an overwhelming spice. It’s just not something that fits the dubbel style very well. The palate is light bodied for the genre, probably thinned by the overly active yeast, as drying, papery carbonation ushers in a cardboard-like finish. Not good. This brewery has failed to impress me in the slightest way.

Pours a hazel brown, decent head. Unique nose with fermented fruit wafting through.quite sour considering the amount of sugars added.interesting texture with a bit of carbonation.not bad but different.

Bottle pours burnt orange with an off-white head. Aroma smells of raw peanuts and faint caramel. Flavor shows basically the same with a pretty muted honey/caramel sweetness giving way to a funky dry apple finish.

Amber pour. Honey and caramel malt aroma. Flavor? AWFUL. Varnish and apple juice. Some old nasty honey. NO GOOD.

Finally finding a single of this at a local store I picked it up without hesitation. I have been wanting to try these for a while though without having to pick up the $21.99 mix pack. After all if they turned out to be duds the last thing I’d want is to be stuck with more bottles. This one isn’t half bad though I feel like it could have a bit more depth.

Aroma / Appearance - Caramelized orange glowing fluid filled the glass. A beige head slowly grew on top to a nice height. Cotton candy, sweet candy corn bites, yeast, and white bread drizzled with honey form a sweet impression that is a little shallow despite having heaviness.

Flavor / Palate - A creamy mixture of orange syrup, rye bread, and peanut butter and jelly play against the palate. Rich and dense it is somewhat overcarbonated. It is hard to get excited about a run of the mill dubbel though I would might give this a shot again (if it is more than just a one off).

light reddish brown and murky with quickly disappearing head. appearance has no resemblance to the style. nose slightly acidic. carbonation for the style. hop bitterness is present before mild fruity yeast character with a ton of acidic flavor with a somewhat acrid finish. it just tastes infected and no component resembles the style. i actually enjoy what this brewery is doing and have thought that the few beers i had by them were interesting and decent, but this is bath water
