Immy (1908), Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA May 29, 2009 330ml bottle from robinvboyer, IIRC. The box says Limited Edition, 2006, the bottle says 24OCT09 and the bottom of the box says best by November 2007, so I guess I’m a bit late. Pours a clear amber with an off white head. Right off the bat, the bourbon hits the nose, plus some vanilla, sweet malt and wood. Flavor is rather sweet malt, light bourbon and wood tinged with vanilla. Some biscuit is noted late, but the smooth bourbon lingers. Not bad, really, as the bourbon is complementary to the beer and integrated well . Very drinkable, just not real exciting. manuchampions (51), Toronto, Ontario, Canada May 19, 2009 The last of a case I bought when the product was released to the LCBO back in 2006. The expiry states 2007 so, by all reasoning, this one should have turned in to an undrinkable mess. Not so. Nose is oaky, sweet and certainly bourbon infused. The colour is a honeyed brown. Almost no carbonation and very little head. In palate the beer tastes akin to grandma’s boozy fruitcake. Certainly getting the marmalade hit along with some toffee and candied fruit. Subtle biscuity malt with a little hop bite in the finish. The alcohol is there but well integrated. Pleasant...a good fireside sipper. I think it’s a shame the brewery put an expiry date on this since it suggested the beer wouldn’t age. Quite to the contrary I believe the beer tastes better and has less of an edge to it than it did when first tasted. Egon (354), Gothenburg, Sweden Apr 23, 2009 Bottle. Dark brown with white head. Malty with some smoke, a bit dry. Low bitterness, taste slightly of the alcohol. joe19612 (560), camberley, Surrey, England Apr 17, 2009 Bottle. Found at the bottom of a cupboard, best before date also 24 2007. A dark amber colour with a very small off-white head. Aroma is all malt. The flavour is all malt with a whisky taste at the end of a dry finish. Drank in a trappist glass. Clear dark copper poor with little head. Aromas of lemon, oranges, vanilla, acohol, pepper, creamy caramel and cookie dough. Zesty tangy feel to it and you can definitely smell and taste the oak aging. Vinous taste to it. Very lightly bitter. All the aromas come back to the flavors and palate and smacks you right in the face.
TheJester (599), Peterborough, Ontario, Canada Dec 29, 2008 (from notes - year old bottle) 330 mL bottle. Dark amber brown with a small off-white head. Aroma of vanilla and malt. Flavour has smoothes and filled out considerably after a year of aging. Malt, oak and even chocolate are present in the flavour. Alcohol bite has mellowed. Much better than "fresh." PictouRx (29), Ontario, Canada Jul 26, 2008 A stronger beer, found at LCBO new item on inventory. Clear amber colored, smooth, oak palate, can defintely taste the toffee and vanilla. So far never encountered a beer like this before.
