THOUGHTS: I had been wanting to try this one for a while. Hid alcohol well until it hit the belly and then it was pleasantly warming. A really nice surprise since I’ve never really heard anyone talk about this one. I think it was the first light oak aged beer I’ve ever had. It was much more subtle than I thought it was going to be, but way more complex at the same time.
TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a clear, medium orangey amber with nice carbonation and a small to average, off-white head that mostly diminished except for right around the edges of the glass and left fair to good lacing. The aroma was great, but a little weak. There was moderate caramel malt, oak, vanilla and slight citrus. The initial flavor was lightly sweet and moderately acidic; while the finish was moderately sweet, light to moderately acidic, lightly bitter and slightly sour with an average to long duration. The light to medium body was dry with lightly fizzy carbonation and a light alcoholic finish.

Oct 11, 2008 Pours a clear golden color with very thin white head. Interesting aroma with hints of honey, oakwood, citrus and fresh green apples. Thin watery flavor of sour applejuice, oakwood and walnut with a sour alcoholic finishing. Mouthwatering sourness and thin watery body

Oct 10, 2008 Co-worker got a case for his birthday and I was able to wrestle a bottle away from him. Scottish brewers add dimension to their portfolio with whiskey-oaked English Strong Ale. Woody, vanilla, whiskey sweetened ale that I found unique and enjoyable.

Oct 5, 2008 Sour oak aroma. Clear orange color with a small white head. Moderate oak flavor to start off. Finishes with a creamy vanilla taste.

Oct 1, 2008 Bouteille transparente de 330 ml. Nos yeux observent une bière de couleur dorée-cuivrée avec une mousse blanche modeste. Notre nez respire des arômes de whiskie, de purée de banane, de vanille et de caramel avec des effluves d’alcool. En bouche notre langue supporte un corps moyen avec une effervescence moyenne. Nos papilles gustatives quand à elles font connaissance avec des saveurs de vanille, de banane, de whiskie avec des notes caramélisées, boisées et alcoolisées. Excellent. Merci Thierry

Sep 30, 2008 Had this in a gold rimmed Innis & Gunn glass on 1/1/07 at an All-Bar-One in London. Pours a coppery color with a smaller 1/4 finger off white head. Earth tones, scotch, oak, and hops on the aroma. First taste is Vanilla, oak, malt, chocolate, caramel and grapes. Finishes with some light bitters, oak, chocolate, earth, and a big dry malt taste. Palate is smooth and creamy. An excellent beer for sure. I wonder what everyone else was drinking! Aftertaste is a little malt heavy.
