Commercial Description:
Bottle: Pasteurised. Special - 2006
Brewed by Belhaven for Innis & Gunn
Ingredients: Golden Promise, Crystal malt and Roasted barley; Slovenian hops.
In April 2005, a specially brewed batch of this beer was filled into 100 hand selected ‘first fill’ bourbon casks to begin 107 days of unique character transformation.
Innis & Gunn are delighted to present the 2006 Limited Edition. This year we have chosen to oak-mature a style of beer that is darker, with a chocolate character from the roasted barley in the recipe, and aromatic, thanks to the use of zesty Slovenian hops.
Colour: Ruby Palate: Devilishly luxurious, rich chocolate character with a flourish of zesty hop complemented by mellow oak Finish: Rounded and satisfying, biscuit malt giving way to orange marmalade

Bought at L.C.B.O. in Ottawa. Brown color beige head. That was the good part. Not much flavor the alcohol % takes away anything that could have been good about this beer. The taste is sweet caramel but that is it for me on this beer.

300 mL bottle of 2006 from LCBO, cellar temp, tulip. MA28/07.

App.: Clear, deep copper, rocky light tan head. Aroma: Light vanilla and chocolate, woody vinous quality, warm alcohol, brown sugar, faint nuttiness and a little earthy funk. Palate: Medium-light body, soft carbonation and light astringency. Flav.: Toffee and brown sugar, light tangy wood, slightly nutty; off-dry, tangy and a little bitter; leaves a little wood and brown sugar behind; a touch of alcohol comes through.

Tastier than their regular offering at the LCBO, but not really “box worthy”.

Deep copper in colour, large tan coloured head, good retention, great lacing. The aroma is very creamy and buttery, some alcohol, oak and vanilla. The flavour is very buttery, some caramel malts, moderate amounts of alcohol, quite sweet. Smooth mouthfeel, medium body, medium carbonation. Finishes long, warm, and sweet. Gets too cloying.

330ml bottle from the LCBO in Peterborough, Ontario for $4.95.
Best before October 24, 2007.

quite harsh i found, the extra days in the oak really comes through. I’m not a fan of this at all. All the faint nice subtle vanilla notes you would get from the oak are gone, its just harsh booze, and BIG oak. meh.......

Wonderful malty, peaty aroma - some caramel and hops too. Pours a dark amber with a minimal head. Mild sweet malt taste, good hopping, still that signature Innus & gunn oak taste which I can’t quite wrap my tastebuds around. Creamy body, good carb. The additional hops and slightly darker character lead me to prefer this beer to the regular 77-day aged variety, but I’m still not a bid fan.

Poured a nice amber colour but with a dissapointing head. Caramel in flavour with hints of lemon zest. Very sweet aroma. Taste of alcohol was not masked well, which led to a less than stellar aftertaste. Overall, I liked the original Innis better, but this was a nice change.

Thanks to Piscator for this sample. Was in a bit of a spin when I tasted this beer, but did not note anything special about it. Not sure that English Strong ale is my style.
