Commercial Description:
Bottle: Pasteurised. Special - 2006
Brewed by Belhaven for Innis & Gunn
Ingredients: Golden Promise, Crystal malt and Roasted barley; Slovenian hops.
In April 2005, a specially brewed batch of this beer was filled into 100 hand selected ‘first fill’ bourbon casks to begin 107 days of unique character transformation.
Innis & Gunn are delighted to present the 2006 Limited Edition. This year we have chosen to oak-mature a style of beer that is darker, with a chocolate character from the roasted barley in the recipe, and aromatic, thanks to the use of zesty Slovenian hops.
Colour: Ruby Palate: Devilishly luxurious, rich chocolate character with a flourish of zesty hop complemented by mellow oak Finish: Rounded and satisfying, biscuit malt giving way to orange marmalade

Clear bottle packed in Ltd. Edition Box
Clear, bubbly amber brown . Medium-large , fine rocky top.
Aromatic , rich brown sugars, malty mineral hops. Deep, wet woody cask notes.6+
Medium bodied, with large carbonation. Strong woody, cask accents. Wet, acidic. Shallow end, no malt to support this brew.

2006 edition (from Waitrose). Brown. On the nose light roasty malts and fruit with earthy hops. Starts out well but phenolic smoky whisky starts to creep in and it doesnt fit. Thin artificial body.

Bottle from the LCBO. Nice deep copper colour with a small beige head. Aroma has a faint skunkiness (should’ve kept it in the fancy box - damn clear bottle!), but it clears up quickly, revealing nice sweet malt and some vanilla and buttery bourbon notes. Flavour is quite sweet as well, with malt, vanilla and a bit of chocolate, followed by some woodiness and a bit of smoke, and a fresh, slightly citric hop note to finish. Pretty nice stuff, I enjoyed it a fair bit more than the regular version.

Bottle. Dark copper-brown body with a large foamy off-white head. The aroma is pleasing with sweet biscuity cookies, butterscotch notes, and faint leafy hops. Interesting palate with apparent tartness and leafy hop bitterness. Sweet malt spine including some toast flavours. Kind of weird combination of styles in the end.

A letdown, found the regular innis and gunn better, just found to be bland and biscuity. I understand that it would have these flavours but was hopeing for so much more

2006 Edition, Bottle - 330ml. Nice amber/ruby body with good carbonation and an average off-white bubbly head. Pleasant and complex malty/hoppy aroma with oaky, fruity (mainly cherries) and chocolate notes. Alcohol is well hidden. Taste is smoothly balanced. It carries a wonderful mix of barleyish, hoppy and fruity flavors, with oaky and chocolate hints. Ends with a vineous bittersweet finish. Very well done!

330ml Bottle: Comes in a group purple box with lots of things to read all over it. Even comes with surprisingly accurate tasting notes! Pours orange/brown in colour, good size head, and very nice retention and lacing. The aroma brings lots of chocolate, whiskey, and oak with slighter amounts of citrus. The first sip brings forth the chocolate and then delivers the citrusy hop punch, fading into a taste of that whiskey and oak. As it warms the body becomes very silky, quite smooth, and offers up more citrus including a good orange chase. Very well balanced, complex, and darn tasty. Loved it!
