Boutip (2333), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada Jan 4, 2008 Bottle: Poured a bright golden color ale with a medium foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of liquor (rum), lemon zest and some malt – very different to say the least. Taste is very weird with some rums notes and zest flavour as well as some pastry? Not sure what to make of this but I am glad I had the chance to try it. Slacks (481), Bolton, Ontario, Canada Jan 1, 2008 330ml Bottle: Once again, a nice annual presentation from the I&G folks. Pours orange in colour, tiny line of thin head. Aroma offers considerable skunk, which is expected from these guys I suppose. Invest in some dark bottles! Also offers up orange, lemon, oak wood, caramel, and citrusy hops. The flavour is somewhat mild, bit watery in the mouthfeel, and not as hoppy as I’d expected. Caramel sweet, vanilla, butter, lots of citrus. All told a pleasant drink, but again I’m left wishing it wasn’t so lightstruck. matt7215 (942), Cambridge, Ontario, Canada Dec 30, 2007 clear bottle in a box. pours golden with a small tight white head. aromas are caramel apple and buttery wood but very distant and vauge. flavours are sweet malts with more caramel apple and butter. no trace of hops in this fake IPA. mouthfeel is thin but drinkable. very dissapointed in this one and im glad i didnt buy 2. Trev (850), Lakeville, Minnesota, USA Dec 27, 2007 At least these ones come in a box rather than the clear glass on the shelf...
Pours a medium gold with a thin white cap.
Aroma is earthy spice, vanilla, buttery.
Vanilla & butter carries strongly into the flavour. Minimal hop presence in the finish. The only IPA my wife has endorsed. JaPe (69), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Dec 22, 2007 Woody Vanilla flavor. Feisty Carb and a fruity bite. Sort of tastes of grapes. Theres alot to it, but before you have time to explore, the Vanilla comes back at you strong. I like it. tupalev (2605), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Dec 16, 2007 Bottle shared with Blankboy, Jerc, and Mabel, courtesy of me via LCBO. Clear bottle from a box. All butterscotch, vanilla, and barrel in aroma - quite nice really. Decent taste! Lots of barrel vanilla in taste - the body is still too thin to support the barrel aging, which has always been my complaint with these guys, but this one actually holds up fairly well. I enjoyed it and surprised myself - I won’t buy again at this price, but it is a nice treat. jerc (3861), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Dec 16, 2007 Bottle. Golden yellow with a small white head. Aroma is mostly barrel, lots of wood and sweet vanilla, butterscotch. Similar flavour, vanilla wood, light bitterness and light malt. It is a lot better than previous samples of their offerings but it is just ok, and I would have a hard time drinking more than a bit of it. Perhaps if you can get past the barrel character you can find greater complexity than I did.
