Honeysuckle, caramel, toffee, some wood, mild spicing, some burnt sugars, a touch of vanilla. Sweetish honey and vanilla up front, trailed with a woody, burnt brown sugar in the middle, finished off with some hoppy grassy undertones. Sweetish finish with nuances of a highland malt. Good beer. robinvboyer (1428), Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, Canada

There is a slight funk, with a tinge of citrus, but it’s all dominated by oak. Flavour is again, all oak. I’mnot gettig much else out of this beer, i dont see a huge difference from the original Innis and Gunn beer. There is a tiny bit of hoppy bitterness, but meh, not my thing. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 9, 2007 Very understated English IPA. Aroma of sour funkiness soaked in wood, some tranlucent soapy head, nad a lightly but rich apple juice colored body, orangey. Taste is quite subdued, aged and mellow, with some citrus. Very light, I recommend and have given this out as a transition craft beer. A little whisky on back of the tongue, and most pleasant with cheese and garlic bread and patatoes. Nice indeed, just too laid back for the big scores. shintriad (698), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Hey, listen, now that I’ve got you here, I got a really quick favour to ask you: Would it be alright if, I don’t know, next time you brew yourself up a beer, you would maybe consider NOT MAKING IT TASTE EXACTLY LIKE I CAN’T BELIEVE IT’S NOT BUTTER? Because that would be just great.
Okay, thanks. pootzboy (1046), Hawgville, Ontario, Canada

Poured a deep gold with a 1 finger sticky cap.
Aromas of thick caramel some earthy and woody tones
Interesting IPA..richly malty with deep caramel tastes and some light apple tones in the front..middle gets a tad more interesting..earthy-woody-tart like sour peach...finishes wet with a sweet and sour woody after taste.
Not what I look for in an IPA...and I fought the idea that the "butterscotch" aromas and tastes were diacetyl... but certainly well matured rounded ale, very soft to the mouth with interesting unique complexity...but a tad sweet for my liking HogTownHarry (4000), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 4, 2007 Bottle (330ml - clear, but in a box). Clear amber-gold with an average foamy white lasting head. VERY nice aroma - I am pretty burned out with the whole bourbon barrel thing, but this is lush - tangy fresh oak resin, peach sweetness, light background alcohol, fresh-mown hay - really soft and appealing, redolent of a nice light sourness. The taste is ... what is that? I get light vanilla oak, apricot, butter, lemon, and pungent-yet-faint herbal hops - good, blended, but too much like buttered whiskey as it warms. Silky, slick mouthfeel, good background acidity, and a longish tart, mildly boozy wood-resin finish. I like this one quite a bit more than last year’s Oak Aged Ale. wilderthanyou (415), Guelph, Ontario, Canada
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 3, 2007 First off, if your reading this and you havn’t poured your innis yet, don’t pour it into a english pint, if you can either pour it into a trappist glass, or better yet a snifter. Half the flavour of this beer comes from the aroma and you’ll lose all that if you use a pint. That being said, this beer pours a golden orange with a thin creamy head that dissolves down to a film. The aroma is sweet, with malty notes of caramel, and toffee, rounded with nice oak, whiskey accents. The flavours reflect the aroma, with sweet caramel and toffee, notes of whisky, and some vanilla and a light lemon zest finish. The mouthfeel is bit light, a touch creamy, it suites the beer, but could be better. All and all, a tasty brew, I think it’s a little unappreciated, which i’m chalking up to the wrong glassware.
