This one is different, very enjoyable beer, drinkable, notes of honey and whiskey, buttersmooth. enough bitterness to balance the sweetness. i could buy this again for sure. alexanderj (2227), Chino Hills, California, USA

Aroma of honey, caramel, whiskey and wood; very sweet. Flavor dominated by sweet, buttery malt and whiskey. Toasted biscuit lingers for awhile on the palate. Was really hoping to like this more, but I don’t think it worked all that well. I think I’m not a big fan of the butteriness. Overall it was a bit messy. DrFunk (80), Sorumsand, Norway

Hid alcohol well until it hit the belly and then it was pleasantly warming. A really nice surprise since I’ve never really heard anyone talk about this one. I think it was the first light oak aged beer I’ve ever had. It was much more subtle than I thought it was going to be, but way more complex at the same time.
TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a clear, medium orangey amber with nice carbonation and a small to average, off-white head that mostly diminished except for right around the edges of the glass and left fair to good lacing. The aroma was great, but a little weak. There was moderate caramel malt, oak, vanilla and slight citrus. The initial flavor was lightly sweet and moderately acidic; while the finish was moderately sweet, light to moderately acidic, lightly bitter and slightly sour with an average to long duration. The light to medium body was dry with lightly fizzy carbonation and a light alcoholic finish. smoothgrain (5), St Albert, Alberta, Canada does not count | 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Jul 1, 2008 the beer that opened my door! I had no idea beer could have so much flavour, look so bueatiful, smell so interesting. I take it out of the fridge and just leave it in front of me for a little while and I get more excited to pour it by the minnute. pours crystal clear and golden honey colour. head is light gold, two inches and then fades. Taste and smell are a little vanilla, not quite sweet, and keeps you interested as it warms. I enjoy it slowly to the last drop. Actually I cherish it, one bottle when I am lucky to have some quiet time to myself. My favourite but I am tasting others to see what the beer world has to offer. Comes in an interesting bottle, pours a honey brown colour with a very small white head. Smells strongly of hops and malt.
Very strong taste, a hoppy bite with a nice toffee finish. Very good beer to relax with. azlondon (662), Fribourg, Switzerland

The head consists of big bubbles, with no crema to speak of. It’s clearly not an ordinary ale, despite the colour and name.
The initial aroma is of oak and honey. It finishes well with a slightly sweet aftertaste that reminds me of madeira, which isn’t surprising considering that it has been "aged" in whisky (or, rather unfortunately, whiskey) barrels, which in turn previously were used for plum products.
This beer is also excellent for cooking -- the flavour is strong enough to lend a good taste to any stew or sausages.
A perfect companion for strong tasting game or steak and kidney pies. It’s too good for guests.
