AWS9 (221), Mississauga, Ontario, Canada Jan 23, 2008 Bottle. Sweet, malts in the aroma and taste. Nice amber colour. Bitter but also tangy in the after taste. It’s refreshing to see honey used properly in brewing, unlike the so called honey lagers all around A little odd, but I like it. dmac (1418), Toms River, New Jersey, USA Jan 20, 2008 11.2 oz bottle purchased at Oak Tree. Pours a clear reddish amber with an initial large foamy white head. Complex aroma of vanilla, oak, whiskey, earth and then some off notes of butter and sulfur as well. Medium bodied with lively carbonation and a full mouthfeel. Flavor is a real let down and the oak simply dominates and is not complimetary. Hardly any beer flavors are present and I thought I was drinking a boilermaker rather then a beer. Well it is Scotish and it is crap. Krausen (102), USA Dec 29, 2007 Huge skunky nose that took some time to blow off. Why do breweries package in clear glass? Aroma is light vanilla with a laffy-taffy like banana. Flavor is a mild whiskey and oak with a drying astringent (but not bad) finish. Fairly one dimensional, but clean, balanced and drinkable. downender (2536), Bristol, Gloucestershire, England Dec 28, 2007 330ml bottle. Copper coloured with a decent off-white head. Aroma of caramel, vanilla oak. Flavour was very sweet with a hint of warming alcohol in the finish. Not bad. MBison (548), Southern Highlands, Australia Dec 26, 2007 Updated: Dec 1, 2008RE-RATE: Bottle (330ml). Poured golden orange with a good sized, thick, frothy, white head which was fully lasting. A rich aroma with sweet buttery caramel malts, strong notes of creamy vanilla, oak, tangerines, English style marmalade and some light notes of banana cake. Flavor was a mild hop bitterness with smooth buttery caramel, vanilla oak, creamy toffee, a touch of butterscotch, mandarin, light notes of pears and a nutty/biscuity finish. Very well hidden alcohol. Medium bodied with soft carbonation, a dry/creamy mouthfeel and a good lasting finish. Dorwart (1807), Robbinsville, New Jersey, USA Dec 25, 2007 Decent sized fluffy white head of fine bubbles. Nice continuous carbonation. Strong vanilla and oak aroma with a hint of bourbon. Also some sweet butterscotch. Color is a crystal clear brownish orange. Lively in the mouth with lots of sweet malts. Lots and Lots of butter. Unfortunately, I am not a fan of butter. But this sort of melds with the vanilla and bourbon nicely. Noticable alcohol presence and actually seems stonger than it actually is. Finishes smooth and creamy with a lingering vanilla taste. A decent brew. Jayb0 (750), Cherry Hill, New Jersey, USA Dec 17, 2007 Nice in that it is more subtle than most of the oak aged monsters I’ve had. Where those tend to leave a bitter hop/wood combo here we have a more mellow wood effect, not unlike what you’d expect from a smoother bourbon. Some candy sweetness. Overall I think it was just a tad thin and needed just a bit more oomph. popkow (107), New York, New York, USA Dec 16, 2007 Clear bottle poored a copper fluid with clear body. The tast of vanilla with a hint of honey left me asking for some bitterness. The body was medium and finsih was smooth but sweet taste left me wanted something more acidic or bitter.
