NJBeerman013 (768), Trenton, New Jersey, USA Dec 15, 2007 Bottle. Quite expensive at almost $4 for a single bottle at the local shop. The beer pours exactly how it looks in the "CLEAR" bottle. A well crafted ale in a clear bottle? Am I the only person that sees a problem with this picture? Let’s save clear bottles for crap like Corona. Anyway, warm amber in color, absolutely flat. No head or fizz. The one complaint I had about this beer is that the smokey oak and vanilla flavors overpower the malty richness as well as the hoppy bite that a good English ale should have. The aroma of the vanilla and oak is amazing being that I am also an avid whiskey fan, but the flavor in this beer was just too much. This beer definitely has a little too thin of a mouthfeel with no real body. The finish is a bit sweet, still very oaky, and a bit alcoholic. A beer worth trying for yourself, but definitely not my cup of tea. Theis (3617), Denmark Dec 8, 2007 Bottle at Vodroffslund Bodega. Clear orange/amber - white head. Oak, wood, amber-malts, caramel, sweetness, light brown sugar. Nice and soft mouthfeeling. Funknmilla (577), Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 29, 2007 12 oz bottle...copper with off-white soapy head....aroma---sweet malts and sweet whiskey...smells that make you go hmmmm....creamy body, yet light...flavor--the essence of a whiskey shot left on the palate then chased by a lager or stronger ale...makes me want whiskey (irish)...a slight peatiness to the finish...price is a tad high for quality KawaBomber (193), New Jersey, USA Nov 27, 2007 12oz. Bottle: Clear copper body w/ a minimal white head. Sweet malts & a light vanilla/strawberry-esque aroma. Roasted malt, slight caramel, smooth. A little bitter & a little something I can’t quite figure out...interesting. Canuckistani (41), Dundas, Ontario, Canada Nov 27, 2007 Updated: Jan 24, 2008Quite an intriguing beer. Take a nice scotch, mix in the right amount of beery flavour, and add fizz. Oaky, carmel brown sugar, amber malts; sweet on the tongue but with a pleasantly sour aftertaste.
You’ve got to be in the mood, and drink it slowly. Laegraid (37), Oslo, Norway Nov 24, 2007 Tasted at Internasjonalen 24. Nov -07. I could not detected any aroma other than the overwhelming caramel / butterscotch. Its quite possible that there some smell of wood there, but to much caramel to be sure. Had a much better flavor than I anticipated, with a great aftertaste. Sweet but with notes of wood. MPA (482), Nørrebro(formerly Aalborg), Denmark Nov 21, 2007 Bottle (cell phone rating). Clear amber. Aroma is sweet and malty, with wood and caramel. Caramel, sweetness, a little wood and some brown sugar in flavour. Seems a little artificial. biggcb (459), Harleysville, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 16, 2007 Bottle. Pours a coppery golden color with a smallish white head. Aroma is on the sweet side, with some of the oak & whiskey. Flavor is also on the sweet side (honey?), again, with notes of the oak & whiskey, some maltiness, smoke, and maybe a little vanilla. nothing special, but not bad at all.
