Magtek32 (76), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Apr 5, 2007 33cl bottle.nice copper colour, tan head, aroma of malt and caramel, a bit on the watery side, sweet taste of caramel and malt, a bit like whisky, nice bitter finish. not too bad Thure (143), Aalborg, Denmark Mar 29, 2007 Nice cobber colour with a light tan-coloured head.
Burbon and a slight sweetness to the nose.
It has a smoky/burbon taste with notes of plum and vanila and a slightly bitter finish at the back of the tounge. The alcohold of 6.6% ABV is well hitten.
It has a medium body with just a hint to much carbonation. The texture is slightly watery but still quit filling.
I would not call it typical Scottish ale, but place it in the SMOKE-FLAVORED AND WOOD-AGED BEER, Style 22C Brix (371), Denmark Mar 20, 2007 Tasted 2007-03-15. Fresh bottle, 33cl. Clear, red-brown colour. White, creamy head. Looks very nice! All I get from aroma is pickels! It’s quite weird! Taste of hops, strawberries and then those darn pickels again. It’s interesting, and I guess the taste is not bad. The pickels are a little distracting for me though. All in all I kinda like it, and I think I’ll drink again due to curiosity! mugabe (215), Sweden Mar 15, 2007 Updated: Sep 5, 2007Bottle at home. Pours a beautiful dark golden amber. Aroma of butterscotch with a hint of vanilla. Full body with a pleasant bitterness and some alcohol in the finish. I probably wouldn’t have more than one or two in a row, though. jhwarfield (123), USA Mar 11, 2007 Bottle. London. pours watery ruby brown with a white pebbly head reminiscent of cappuccino. wonderful caramel and vanilla aroma. darrentoronto (1), USA does not count Mar 10, 2007 thought old speckled hen was the best beer in the world, thought the day would never come then innis & gunn came along and knocked hen off the throne, this beer is God’s gift to the mankind.
expensive but would pay $20/bottle if i was that.
pls try mannika (98), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Mar 9, 2007 Pours a clear amber with a pure frothy head. Aroma is very unique, is surprisingly oaky, with a sweet caramel smell that is quite unique for a beer. Very sweet flavour, a dry buttery toffee taste with a tinge of mint. The finish is a long sweetness with a dry bitterness right at the end. Overall, extremely unique and interesting beer. HarryFlashman (469), Chatham, Kent, England Mar 7, 2007 Being a Scottish ale, I was expecting this to be disgusting as most are. I suppose at least it wasn’t battered, like most Scotch produce, though it probably would have tasted better if t was! A sickly sweet taste, horrible oaky vanilla flavour - almost undrinkable! I understand this is oak aged. For me, this beer is to real ale what New World wine (i.e. Australian/Californaian) is to fine wine. Namely, it has been spoilt by giving it unnecessary oaky, sweet flavours, thus making it unpalatable for connoisseurs comme moi! I’m not sure if putting it in a small bottle is an insult, as they think it is so good and refined (when it isn’t), or a blessing in saving one’s taste buds?!?!
