Aroma of butterscotch with a hint of vanilla. Full body with a pleasant bitterness and some alcohol in the finish. I probably wouldn’t have more than one or two in a row, though. jhwarfield (123), USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Mar 9, 2007 Pours a clear amber with a pure frothy head. Aroma is very unique, is surprisingly oaky, with a sweet caramel smell that is quite unique for a beer. Very sweet flavour, a dry buttery toffee taste with a tinge of mint. The finish is a long sweetness with a dry bitterness right at the end. Overall, extremely unique and interesting beer. HarryFlashman (469), Chatham, Kent, England

I suppose at least it wasn’t battered, like most Scotch produce, though it probably would have tasted better if t was! A sickly sweet taste, horrible oaky vanilla flavour - almost undrinkable! I understand this is oak aged. For me, this beer is to real ale what New World wine (i.e. Australian/Californaian) is to fine wine. Namely, it has been spoilt by giving it unnecessary oaky, sweet flavours, thus making it unpalatable for connoisseurs comme moi! I’m not sure if putting it in a small bottle is an insult, as they think it is so good and refined (when it isn’t), or a blessing in saving one’s taste buds?!?! faroeviking (6023), Republica Vikingo de las, Faroe Islands

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 4, 2007 Updated: Mar 11, 2007Poured to an orange-red, with medium off-white head that lingered well and left good lacing up and down the glass. Aroma was a malty sweet oak, with hints of vanilla. As the beer warmed, the alcohol made itself known a little more in the aroma, almost like a mild whiskey, muting the other scents. Flavor was also sweet oak, with a touch of honey. Mouthfeel was pleasant enough, and the palate was sweet at first, but the alcohol became a little more dominant toward the end.
Not bad, but I could not drink many at once. mabel (2590), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Very unique aroma, like old socks and ham with some musty wood and honey. Clear, orange brown body with some slow small bubbles and a big medium-lasting foamy white head. Tastes like honeyed oak, strong wood characteristics. Medium body, fairly smooth. Tastes better than it smells.
