faroeviking (6024), Republica Vikingo de las, Faroe Islands Mar 5, 2007 Bottle. Clear amber. aroma of toasty malt, caramel and some oak. waterish mouthfeel. Flavour is sweet with toasty malt, caramel, some oak wood, slight whiskeyish. Pretty good ale. kimcgolf (824), Dacula, Georgia, USA Mar 4, 2007 Updated: Mar 11, 2007Poured to an orange-red, with medium off-white head that lingered well and left good lacing up and down the glass. Aroma was a malty sweet oak, with hints of vanilla. As the beer warmed, the alcohol made itself known a little more in the aroma, almost like a mild whiskey, muting the other scents. Flavor was also sweet oak, with a touch of honey. Mouthfeel was pleasant enough, and the palate was sweet at first, but the alcohol became a little more dominant toward the end.
Not bad, but I could not drink many at once. mabel (2530), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Feb 28, 2007 [187-20070114] 330mL. Very unique aroma, like old socks and ham with some musty wood and honey. Clear, orange brown body with some slow small bubbles and a big medium-lasting foamy white head. Tastes like honeyed oak, strong wood characteristics. Medium body, fairly smooth. Tastes better than it smells. ekstedt (2411), Göteborg, Sweden Feb 25, 2007 Bottle. Amber clear color with a thin off-white head. Strong malt aroma with pineapple and apricot, and a wooden character with coconut and vanilla, but no hops whatsoever. Medium bodied, with a sweet, unbalanced and somewhat stale finish. TheRoot (38), Brantford, Ontario, Canada Feb 24, 2007 .... .. ........ Best before date of September 20/07... It’s February 24, 2007... It poured a lovely amber colour with a slightly disturbing head reminiscent of urinal foam... It tasted like the urine of a rabid wombat had been filtered through a pair of panty-hose taken from a transvestite hobo that had been used as an emergency fan belt on a mid 60’s VW beetle stretched over a urinal puck holder.
And I’m being overly generous.... kopher (295), New York, USA Feb 18, 2007 Bright orange with white foam. Aroma is sweet hops and citrus. Very watery, but interesting flavor--sweet and sour malt-y-ness. Sweet fruity finish. iLikeGoodHead (6), New York, New York, USA does not count Feb 18, 2007 I loved this beer. To me it was almost as if someone mixed beer and cream soda together. It is scary how easy this beer is to drink with the alcohol content. This hit the spot yesterday on a cold winter’s night watching some basketball on tv. JustinBathurst (134), Corner Brook, Newfoundland, Canada Feb 14, 2007 Pours a clear orange-brown, with a white head made of the tiniest suds jam-packed together. The head never went away--at least 4 mm covered the surface of the beer for the whole glass.
The aroma is, as the bottle touts, vanilla and butter toffee, but, due to our friend the clear bottle, a slight bit of skunk (ever-so-faint and therefore not considered for the rating, but on my mind).
The mouthfeel is highly carbonated, battering my palate with bubbles of joy, and crisp.
The taste is very reminiscent of whisky, and (again) vanilla, butterscotch, warming alcohol notes (strong ale, after all), and (surprisingly) a hint of dill. The aftertaste is all vanilla and dill. I enjoyed this beer a whole lot and was sad to finish it as it was a gift originating from far, far away.
