blutt59 (2042), Dallas, Texas, USA Jul 24, 2009 bottle, reddish gold pour with lots of foam and lace, aroma of oak and maple syrup, flavor has sour maple, roasted nuts, butterscotch, slight funk from the clear bottle
nqualls (1429), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Jul 21, 2009 Source:Bottle purchased while in Dublin.
Glass:Yazoo Hop Project pint.
Appearance:Clear amber/gold pour with a two finger white head that quickly dissipated.
Aroma:Very clean malty aroma with a hint of oak and peat.
Flavor:Up front a clean maltiness dominates. This quickly gives way to the oak and vanilla from the barrel. Excellent.
Palate:Medium body with solid carbonation.
Overall:I wasn’t sure what to expect here, especially with the low rating. I am very pleased with the oakiness. Would love to have more.
bulldogops (153), Alberta, Canada Jul 20, 2009 Updated: Aug 18, 2009Bottle. 6.6%. @ Metro Billiards in Edmonton. Beautiful honey/amber colour with a creamy white foam. Taste of honey, toffee, and the oak casks used are present in the flavour. An expensive beer here at home, but a rare treat. scraff (1921), Baltimore, Maryland, USA Jul 20, 2009 Special thanks to Kramario. Amber, white creamy head. Soft vanilla and caramel warm to just a hint of old oak. Light honey vanilla and caramel flavors balance on a touch of booze and wood. 6.6% shines. Light to medium bodied, medium carbonation, quick dry finish. A touch basic, but still worth a try if given the chance… jeremytoni (1069), Swedesboro, New Jersey, USA Jul 18, 2009 From a bottle poured amber with a fair amount of head. Nice bitter light hoppy flavor with a lasting aftertaste. Strangebrewer (208), Chatham, Ontario, Canada Jul 17, 2009 bottle. Poured clear orange-amber with lasting thin white head. Over whelming citrus-hop aroma, a bit skunky. Creamy mouthfeel. Some caramel and burnt flavours. Low Carbonation. Slight metallic bitterness. Not as offensive as I remembered. hopscotch (5437), Vero Beach, Florida, USA Jul 16, 2009 Bottle… Clear amber ale with a mid-sized, fluffy, white head. Excellent retention. The nose is very woody – smells mainly of oak, but also presents a note of vanilla, a hint of white pepper and a touch of honey. Medium-bodied with a mildly creamy mouthfeel and tingly carbonation. Way too sweet, like a South American pale lager. There’s a little oak essence thrown in, but the sweetness is cloying and way over-the-top. My favorite beer style is Scotch ale, but this stuff just hits me in all the wrong places. MrRoss (614), Delta, British Columbia, Canada Jul 16, 2009 Marvellous embossed bottle and very attractive labels. Best before 24 June 2006 and aged 77 days! This poured a clear, medium copper colour with a smalish foamy off-white head. Lacing - NOT!! The aroma was very gentle and light, perhaps some hop bitterness over malt, with also some intangible scent which I presume was the oak. The taste was not unlike the aroma, and the aftertaste was clean and smooth. A very good beer. Truly the sweetness makes this taste more like a scottish ale rather than an ESB.
