Miksu (2187), Jyväskylä, Finland Aug 5, 2006 Bottled. Copper color with poor head. Malty and sweet aroma featuring vanilla, citrus and grain whisky. Sweet flavor of grainy whisky and resinuous hops. Whisky, pepper and woodiness in the finish. Distinctive but not overpowering whisky character. wunderbier (1264), Tampere, Finland Aug 4, 2006 11.2oz bottle, Bordeaux glass, bbe 16/06/07. A restrained layer of frothy white foam forms--after some vigorous coaxing--over a deep brass hue of crystal clarity. The scent upon opening the bottle, and for the first few minutes in the glass, is strongly dominated by that insidious mammal...the skunk. At least they’re using real hops. That aroma dissipates to some extent after a few minutes of breathing but never vanishes in entirety. Caramel, toffee and white bread sweetness are the simple malt offerings. A strong grassy aroma is quite pervasive and leans into a bright, perfumed, oak presence. Perhaps a slight nuttiness escapes around the edges. Forward sweetness is grainy, thick with caramel and bread. The sharpness of the oak’s perfumed nature never seems to manifest itself in the flavor and the beer is rather severely denatured of almost any acidity--a touch of lemon peel perhaps entering in the finish. The aftertaste is long winded and grassy with a thick sweetness remaining upfront. Oak flavors are intertwined throughout and likely the only well done aspect of this whole show. A bit thicker and fuller than water, the mouthfeel is a bit flat, though there is a rather sticky quality to the texture. Carbonation is reserved though, I imagine, bursting for a beer from that side of the pond. If it weren’t skunked and dead this might manage ’oddly interesting’...as it stands... Stefano (1321), Esbjerg, Denmark Jul 23, 2006 Pours a transparent copper body, accompoanied by a medium sized beige head. Aromas are malty, woody, some alcohol (whisky). Taste is bitter, lots of woody and whisky flavours. Some caramel malt to semi balance. Thin bodied. Watery mouthfeel. Nutty aftertaste. TheJester (694), Peterborough, Ontario, Canada Jul 18, 2006 Updated: Sep 6, 2006Aroma is very distinctive, in a good way. Flavour much sweeter than I remember. In a bad way. In fact, it’s kinda overwhelming. dkoonce (880), People’s Republic of Athens, Ohio, USA Jul 18, 2006 Bottle. Amber color (clear bottle) with a thick white head. Aroma is a bit smokey. The body is medium to heave, with a good balance of hops and malt. Furseth (1328), Kungälv, Sweden Jul 17, 2006 Bottle: Yellow/Red colour, with a creamy white foam.

Lovely clear amber color, with a white ample foamy head leaving some lace.
Surprisingly sweet aroma of malts, fruity hops, malt whiskey, and a very distinct whiff of vanilla.
Fruity, malty flavor with caramel and oak, slightly dryer than aroma. A hefty kick of the same sweet vanilla in the finish. Malts and oak linger in aftertaste.
Medium body, clean mouthfeel, lively carbonation.
Altogether, a lot sweeter than I’d expected, but excitingly different and quite enjoyable. OhioDad (2491), Hilliard, Ohio, USA Jul 9, 2006 12oz bottle via trade with JoeMcPhee! - Thanks Joe! - Poured amber fairly clear with a pretty nice offwhite head that stayed briefly but laced a little. Aromas of vanilla, oak, and a touch of caramel. Also some vegetal aroma there as well. Flavor contains vanilla, oak, caramel, and a touch of hops on the finish. Overall quite malty though and you can tell it was in the barrel. Palate is smooth and almost buttery.
