Commercial Description:
Bottle: Pasteurised.
Brewed by Belhaven for Innis & Gunn
Ingredients: Golden Promise and crystal malt; Phoenix hops.
""""For 30 days this honey-hued beer sleeps in hand selected oak barrels, locked inside a bonded warehouse, gradually assimilating the subtle flavours that reside in the wood. Barrels are then emptied and maturation continues for a further 47 days in a marrying tun where these natural flavours infuse and fall into perfect balance. This 77-day process is unique and produces a delicious, refreshing beer: Aromas of vanilla and toffee, hints of citrus, with a malty, lightly oaked, palate. Deftly balanced and light in texture, soothing and warming in the finish.""""

Tasted 29/01/2006. 33oml bottle from Rumble’s, Wellington. Copper, slightly oily looking, with a glossy off-white that diminishes quickly. Little visible carbonation and no lacing. Very whisky-like nose, dominated by malt and esters - honey, orange, vanilla, wood, smokey. Sweet juicy carmel and autumn-fruit malt up front, a mildly-bitter pithy middle and smokey, woody, lingering finish. Mouth weight is tending medium with a drying carbonation. Started off very well but loses something in the middle and with the carbonic dryness. Well-kept bottle, a tribute to the importer and the store. Good recipe but perhaps too clinical.

(on bottle) Dark, clear orange, small beige head. Defently some whiskyaromas in this, in fact I´m sure a whisktgeek could tell the sort or brand. tad of plum too, with a even tader hint of metal. The whiskey dominates the taste 100%; peat, wood, some smoke, kandis. Gets a bit too much for me, only a hint of hops and the carbonation made me finish it. Impressively funny blend. How come no other barrel aged has been this dominated by the actual barrel origin? The light beer maybe.

Bottle from the <a href=http://www.lcbo.com target=blank>LCBO in Peterborough. Clear bronze in colour, thin dissipating white head, small bubbles. The aroma was of caramel, wood, butterscotch, boozy. The flavour was smoky, butterscotch and light toffee, some minor alcohol, slightly sweet. Creamy mouthfeel, medium/light body, medium carbonation. Finishes slightly sweet with toffee, lingering.

(Bottle) Pours golden orange with a creamy white head. The nose reveals traces of fresh grinded coffee and sweet malts. The taste is somewhat smoky and peaty with sweet caramel notes. Really good beer overall!

This ale pours a beautiful dark orange colour with a nice frothy white head. First sniff I found scents of vinegar and wine at the start. Sweet wine like a port. After that the whiskey kicks in. First sip was almost peaty with a trace of smoke. Sweet with caramel amd syrup. The finish is very much full of the malt whiskey it boasts on the label. Pretty sweet too. Still a hint of malt vinegar at the end. Palate nice and a slight bitter on the tongue. Good but only for a couple.
