""""For 30 days this honey-hued beer sleeps in hand selected oak barrels, locked inside a bonded warehouse, gradually assimilating the subtle flavours that reside in the wood. Barrels are then emptied and maturation continues for a further 47 days in a marrying tun where these natural flavours infuse and fall into perfect balance. This 77-day process is unique and produces a delicious, refreshing beer: Aromas of vanilla and toffee, hints of citrus, with a malty, lightly oaked, palate. Deftly balanced and light in texture, soothing and warming in the finish.""""

If you like scotch, you’ll like this. Brownish/gold and virtually headless with an aroma that smells like scotch with a fresh tang. Tastes like scotch mixed with beer with a nice mild aftertaste. Hey, if you don’t like scotch, stay away. If you like it, buy a 6 pack. I know I will.

Bright copper in colour with a medium amount of carbonation. Interesting aromas of vanilla, fruity British yeast, light malt, and marshmallow. The flavors are very sweet on the front end with elements of caramel, light fruit, licorice, and vanilla cream. The more tannic oak wood flavors show up big time on the finish. I was expecting not to like this beer, and in spite its heavy handed over the top nature , I actually enjoyed it.

Bottle: Poured a light copper color ale with a medium head with average retention. Aroma of malt is pretty discreet with some noticeable English hops. Taste has some recognisable floral malt with a slightly bitter finish. I’m not too sure about the oak aged aspect since I thought it was hard to distinguish and almost seems like a marketing gimmick…

Bottled. Aroma of light smoke and caramel with a hint of nuts. Light brown color, thick off-white head, good lace. Very sweet, smoked, bitter, nutty. Smooth, little sticky and warming. Actually very special flavors and unlike any other beer I ever had. But the sweetness ruins it.

With hindsight I would have rolled this one out with dessert. Unfortunately, this was a pre-dinner thirst quencher that back-fired. Started off well, an unsurprising (thanks to marketer’s dream glass) orange-brown with a large and a lasting head. Again unsurprising, the aroma was dominated by oak, with notes of vanilla and some very evident alcohol. For me this was way too sweet, sickly really. Ideally I would have been sipping this on a full belly, so that would have made it less offensive, but on an empty stomach it was cloying. Quite an oily texture in the mouth, smooth and possessing a light carbonation. Definitely one to have as a digestif.

A Mes rate: The aroma definitely has a touch of whiskey about it. Some vanilla and quite obvious sour cream. It looks like a whiskey too. The flavour echos the aroma and is creamy with burnt oak and pine. This really is a strange one. I can’t get away from the sour cream and chives which I really don’t care for at all. Obviously given what this is meant to be the malt is predominant all round. Finish is again very whiskey like but with lashings of vanilla cream and banana. Im sure plenty of people will enjoy this a lot more than I did. I love a wee nip of scotch but I wouldn’t be chucking some beer in it. Personally I can’t make my mind up but I am verging on the dislike.
