Commercial Description:
Bottle: Pasteurised.
Brewed by Belhaven for Innis & Gunn
Ingredients: Golden Promise and crystal malt; Phoenix hops.
""""For 30 days this honey-hued beer sleeps in hand selected oak barrels, locked inside a bonded warehouse, gradually assimilating the subtle flavours that reside in the wood. Barrels are then emptied and maturation continues for a further 47 days in a marrying tun where these natural flavours infuse and fall into perfect balance. This 77-day process is unique and produces a delicious, refreshing beer: Aromas of vanilla and toffee, hints of citrus, with a malty, lightly oaked, palate. Deftly balanced and light in texture, soothing and warming in the finish.""""

Bottle from Cracked Kettle. Amber body, no head. Malty and oaky. Taste of hops, apples. Quite strong for my likes.

Medium sized egg-shell colored head which dissapears quickly. A slight skunk smell, but also some sweetness. Golden color. Flavor is complex...definitely some unfermented sugars, a bit of alcohol taste, and some vanilla, and a bit of citrus (grapefruit?). I keep thinking I’m tasting some oak, but that’s prob because I’m reading the word all over the label. Not one of my favorites, but I can appreciate it. Very well rounded and mellowed, presumably from the aging process.

Clear and rich amber color but little to no head to speak of. Malty nose with some oak aromas. Toasty malt, notes of vanilla and oak, hops are very light and it finishes a bit dry with a medium body.

Clear Bottle Pours reddish-gold, aroma is pleasant - cola is the best I can come up with - but understated. Flavor is subtle, and incredibly smooth. There’s little to point to here that would indicate the oaking other than general smoothness. No vanilla or sweetness that bourbon casks might impart, but that might make it too saccharine. Doesn’t taste like 6.6%. Not bad, not bad.

Bottle from Morrisons. Attractive orange with a white head, I tried this a few years ago when it first appeared and was quite impressed. Under Greene Kings stewaedship it has dived considerably. The barrel aged smokey/woodiness has almost gone, the carbonation is less smooth and ant evidence of hops ihas vanished. The remaining flavour is best described as toffee apple stewed iin diacetyl.!

An interesting beer right from the pour: sweet aroma to match the reddish brown appearance. Flavor was buttery smooth, sweet in the mouth, with a delectably tasty finish that I learned later was akin to toffee. This is a wickedly refreshing beer that I would love to get my hands on again. Cheers.
