This special beer has been brewed using Munich malt and golden oats to give it a beautiful biscuit backbone and a creamy smooth finish. Fuggles hops add their signature earthy and rich character before maturation in bourbon oak unlocks delicious flavours of vanilla and toffee from deep inside the oak grain. Available exclusively in all provinces of Canada (except Quebec and PEI).

Pours hazy dark amber with a small white head that leaves soapy lace all over the glass. Aroma of maple, bourbon, dark dried fruits, brown sugar, toffee and some grassy Aroma. Taste is toffee, maple, brown sugar, earthy hops and a nice alcohol warming on the finish. Excellent oak aged beer but a bit too sweet overall.

330ml bottle from BC Liquor downtown Vancouver. Must say, Iím not generally a fan of these Innis & Gunn one offs so Iím going to try and sidebar my prejudice. Pours a very clear copper with tight cap of quarter inch cream head. Aroma is slightly brown sugar sweet caramel, toffee, oak but very little bourbon. A biscuit note in there as well along with some interesting yeast. Taste is quite good. Thereís the bourbon mixed in with a crisp, biscuity note, some treacle like sweetness but not overdone. Finish is slightly hot with alcohol and a strong bourbon cask note. Iím pleasantly surprised. Despite seeming a little hot and unrefined itís reasonably good. Even though the box suggests an expiry date of July 2012 Iíd be curious to see how this one ages.

Ice cream head! Pralines and cream. Rich honey visual and taste. Floral undertones. Imagine a cow graising in a field of clovers in your mouth.

Pours a dark auburn brown with a thinning white head. Aroma, man Innis & Gunn hit aroma so easily, this one isnít as vanilla and oaky as the original but the notes of butterscotch and caramel are great. Small oak hints and vanilla. Taste is a little hot, alcohol is a little more upfront than other versions, small vanilla and butterscotch. Seems to be lacking the "grown up" tastes of oak, roasted malts but still is a great beer. Bought two and the second will be enjoyed on Canada Day

Poured into a tulip glass. Complex aroma, very brief white head that dispersed quickly. Appearance was golden amber- nothing special. Taste was smooth and creamy, lots of caramel and vanilla. Just a hint of hops but because of being aged in oak barrels it wonderfully subtle and smooth. Doesnít feel like a high-alcohol beer while in the mouth.

33cl bottle labeled Canada Day 2011. 8.3%. Poured clear amber color with a thin head. Aroma is buttery, toffeeish, biscuity, with some woody notes when getting warmer. Flavor is biscuit, toffee and caramel with lots of vanilla towards finish. Hint of alcohol as well. Almost full bodied. Overall a very smooth beer, typical Innis & Gunn. Very tasty.

Bottled. Golden colour, small off-white foamy head. Aroma is sweet wooden notes, mild rumlike notes as well as some slight fruityness. Flavour is sweet slightly smoked wooden notes with some rum and vanilla in it as well. Quite sweet finish. Actually very pleasant.

From a 330ml bottle on 25/9/2011 (shared with Butz). Pours a reddish amber with a fast disappearing head. Has a fruity, slightly port like aroma. In the mouth, itís very sweet indeed - malty and fruity (particularly raisins and berries), with some oak. It almost has a touch of muscat about it. Thereís just enough offsetting bitterness for it to work quite well. A nice and quite unusual dessert beer.

This "Canada Day" ale claims be an "oak-aged scottish ale" on the packaging.... Ruby-amber body with tanned airy and creamy top. The bouquet is composed of finely crafted oak massaged into an amber sugar malt body. There is a delightful woodsyness of oak-barrel breath. A clean oak profile throughout. The flaovr reminds me of a pleasant Candian whiskey. A stronger oak presence makes itself known and there again is te well apportioned woody character--this time also accompanied by soft vanillins. Well-crafted and nuanced. Not very scotch ale-like--more of a Canadian Whiskey ale.
